The deceased had'been placed in jail at his own request by Constable Sullivan, as he had been drinking heavily and was laboring under the delusions that someone would attack and injure him. About 4 o'clock Thursday morning he was heard by parties on the outside of the jail to do considerable talking and shouting, to which, however, no attention was paid. Later on V. L. Scott, deputy constable, visited the jail and found Carroll hung bv the neck from the bar of the door between the two cells his suspenders having been used bv which to commit the rash act. Car roll's feet would easily have touched the ground, but that he had purposely hung himself was shown by the post tiou he was in.
