Aug. 8, 1974 3 Helper Lions begin annual calendar drive fl rJ1 it' Helper Lions Club has started its annual Birthday Calendar Drive with each member now selling listings and advertisements to area Carbon North residents. Chairman Keith Reid said the deadline to report listings is September 16. Last year the club sold 500 calendars and 22 advertisement spaces to local by Jean Ann Dimick v5; for three weeks and their parents Mr. and Mrs. Chuck week vacation in California. Lopez' fete 60th anniversary An open house will be held in honor of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Lopez, at 564 South 3rd West in Helper to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Their daughter Mrs. Howard Norton said guests may arrive from 1 : 00 p.m. until that evening. They ask that no gifts be given. Mr. Lopez is the son of Mr. and Mrs. AntonioLopez. He was born in 1889 in Walsenburg, Colorado. He married Neta Julander on August 9, 1914 in Richfield, Utah. Neta is the daugher of Brigham Julander, Born in Monroe, Utah, 1894. Tey are both members of the L.D.S.Church and their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple in 1965. Mr. and Mrs. Lopez moved to Helper in 1917 where Mr. Lopez employed by the first members of Helper's Relief Society. Mr. and Mrs. Lopez have two children, Mrs. Howard (Lucy) Norton of Helper, and Frank Lopez of Garden . Grove, California. D&RG reports tie theft Mounds, an abandoned railroad stop near here. According to the Carbon County Sheriff office, the ties, which belonged to the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad, were discovered missing Monday was morning. The D&RG's Salt Lake office reported the theft to the sheriff. The ties are from 9 feet to 16 feet long and were used but in good enough condition to use again. D&RG Mrs. Lopez was one of the Emergency drawing scheduled in September accidents in which area people have been hurt, said Mrs. Gardner. Persons unable to find persons to replace blood may donate money instead. An emergency blood drawing will be held in the Helper Auditorium September 12 from 2 to 6 p.m., announced Claranell Day and Lucille Gardner this week. Helper's quota is 150 But the donation of blood is preferred, said Mrs. Day. The money would pay for the cost of administering the blood, but in no way would replace the value of the blood which is in so pints. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Gardner of Las Vegas Nevada and children Joy and Jeffery, are visiting with Keith's parents Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gardner of Helper and Doris' parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Fullerton of Spring Glen. They plan to stay for ten days and while here attend Keith's class reunion. In their spare time the Pugliese family also went clamming, crabbing and then enjoyed the fruits of their labor. They traveled through 17 states on their way to Delaware. Mrs. Pearl Gardner of Helper traveled to Salt Lake the 24th of July to attend a family (Gardner) reunion. Accident Financing For Catholic pilgrimage Autos The celebration of the Holy Year Pilgrimage and Demonstration of Faith for Catholic families in the southeastern section of Utah will be held in Price August 25. Sears w Mr. and Mrs. Carly Burton of Helper and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bailey of Castle Gate were visited recently by their children Carley and Barbara Burton of Salt Lake and their grandchildren Jeff and Michelle. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Briest of Helper are being visited by their daughter Joyce and husband Nick Nelson and grandchildren Jedd, Nick and Cori of Porterville, California. The Nelsons plan to be here for about 10 days. Mr. and Mrs. John Bonza and family of Kingman, Arizona are visiting with' Mr. and Mrs. Vince Bonza of Helper. It has been 18 years since John has been in this area and while traveling he visited with his sister in Grand Junction, Bishop Joseph Lennox Federal of the Salt Lake Diocease has selected Notre Dame De Lourdes in Price as the pilgrimage church for the south eastern part of the state. A Mass will be held on the Carbon High School football field at noon. Priests from the area parishes have been invited to the Mass with Bishop Federal, the celebrant. principle Musical groups and a children's group from Notre Dame School will also the in participate celebration. In conjunction with the - tradition of pilgrimage, area pastors will conduct short devotional services at Notre Dame Church at 11 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 Following Mass, an afternoon picnic at Price City park is scheduled. The Southeastern Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will provide food and beverages. To accomodate participants, a bus service Notre Dame in Price and Good Shephard in East Carbon City. J will operate from the church to the park. The tradition of the Holy Year practice dates back to 1300. The Pope declares a special year of prayer every quarter century, in May of 1973, Pope Paul VI declared 1975 as the Holy Year. The theme is one of renewal and reconciliation Catholic comcalling munities to live more fully in the faith. In conjunction with the Holy Year celebration in Rome, the Pope also designated 1974 as preparation for the Holy Year in the local parishes.
