Show JUNIOR HI. NOTES Electricity fROM Ediythe Banasky Do you know where electricity comes from or how it is made? Well, in Mr Thygerson's 4th BLUE SHIELD Skiing Thinking of taking up ski- ing this winter? Get into condition first. Start working out on a regular basis long before you begin skiing. Check the local library for books on the proper exercises. Equip yourself with the proper clothing, boots and skiing equipment. Remember, that no matter how much of a natural athlete you are, skiing requires highly developed skills and practice. And, as a beginner, stick to the "Beginners' Slope." Winter Scarfs Don't get all hung-u- p this winter for fashion's sake. Doctors warn that the long winter scarfs in popularity these days can pose a serious safety hazard. These scarfs can be particumalarly dangerous when worn in the vicinity of moving sudchinery. Their long ties, whipped about the wind, can denly become entangled in the spokes of a motorcycle, a snowmobile, or the moving parts of a ski lift. This can cause serious facial injuries, and sometimes even drag the wearer to his death. Avoid wearing these long mufflers when engaging in any type of sports activity or when you will be in contact with machinery. period science class, the stu dents are studying electricity and how it is made. A dry cell battery, for instance, has billions of electrons around a carbon rod. When you put a conductor, and a piece of copper wire, over tiic terminals, these electrons flow from one terminal to another and produce electricity. AH electricity is the balancing of these electrons or protrons. Bulletin Boards Go Up by Nora Watson In Mrs. Postma's 1st period type class, the students have been taking turns putting up the bulletin board. Y., N. Y., 10017 Q. I've been hearing about the heavy use of life insurance for business purpose lately. Is this something new? A. Not at all. Though it is true that in recent years business firms have been making greater use of life insurance than ever before. It is, of course, to protect themselves against the financial loss that would result from the death of a key employee, mana ger or owner. But it's a practice that goes back to one of the earliest uses of life insurance when it was used to cov er ship's captains against death at sea. The famous English author, Charles Dickens, a century ago bought a policy to protect his publisher when Dickens received a large advance payment on uncompleted manuscripts. Dickens had this to say about life insurance: "Whether you are thinking of comfort and competence in your old age, or of the interest of wife and children when you may be no more, or of a provision for your boy when he reaches mature age, or of the happy marriage and the wedding portion of your little daughter, one day to be, you hope, a blushing bride, now a tiny prattling fairy of two or three years never mind the subject matter be insured." Q. A month after I bought a nice life protection plan, an insurance agent showed me one which appeared more flexible. So I tried to cancel the first policy and get a refund. But it was de nied. How come? A. Principally because the contract you signed has already been providing you with protection until the next payment falls due. We urge that you think carefully about dropping the insurance. For one thing, you might want to speak to the agent from whom you bought your policy to see if in fact there are any clauses or other provisions that account for the apparent difference in price. Perhaps the insurance you now have will be paying you a dividend, and the policy you heard about does not pay dividends; that alone would account for a difference in premium.
