Columbus, NKOTC shipman Earl F. Benedict, son f Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Benedict of 296 Railroad Ave., Helper, operates a milling machine in the ship's machine shop. He has been a member of the Naval ROTC for three years while attending the University of Utah. There are some 1,100 midshipmen representing 62 colleges and universities embarked in Midship- - man cruise "Charlie ', an ll-sh- training squadron under the command of Rear Admiral Richard p. Glass. USN. Shipboard training for the future officers includes practical instruction in seamanship, navigation, gunnery, engineering and communications. Ports of call will include Colon, Trinidad; Panama; and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Tne six week training cruise began July 20th and will end at Norport-of-Spai- n, folk, Va., on Aug. 29th.
