Peerless was the jnost seriously damaged 1n this district and the Carbon county road department had a crew of raen working late Wednesday and all day Thursday making the road passable. The Peerless" mine was also damaged considerably with water and mud, the pump. being tilled and mine track being piled high with rocks. In looking the situation of the over Thursday Utah Railway morning, Superintendent R. J. Vaughan said "approximately damage was suffered by my company. The parts of the line fTected most are the main yards which furnished an outlet for the Hardscrabble canyon waters at Martin just south of the shops," and the cut near Utah junction down which the waters from Gentile Canyon ran." y $15,-00- 0 Men Utah Calls j t OFFICIAL About 75 men were called into rush service by the Utah Railway Wednesday evening and are still working, cleaning of the tracks and building up the fills which were washed out. The Rio Grande alao called out extra section aids to' reinforce the main line at Utah junction and at various points along the line. The state highway was hit the wqrst in many years not since the paving of the road fifteen years ago, has the road been so cluttered and blocked. The first water to the highway was at the Gale property along the main highway just north of Rainbow gardens. A concrete culvert at this point was almost washed away by the waters coming down from Hardscrabble. The road at Utah junction was also blocked with an alluvial fan that was as high as automobiles trying to get over the crossing. On the bank of the mountain across from the Panther mine, the road was also obstructed with a , silt and rock fan. Castle Gate Junction Most debris was piled on the HattJ at the junction of the Castle Gate and main road where it was impossible and will undoubtedly temain impossible to get down to the concrete surface for a week or more, evidently repairing the use of a shovel and caterpillar to open this portion. In the meantime, the traffic will stretch go over the make-shif- t cleaned off Thursday. The flood waters as usual did not fail to leave some portions of Helper in the wake of its path. The homes of several Help-- r residents were flooded inside aod out by the waters as they rushed by in the Price river near by. The home of Fred Taylor and E. H. Thomas were well drenched with the brown silt of Good water. E. Beveridge, engineer of maintenance of ways of the Utah Railway at Martin, the flood waters that hit the line of his company Wednesday were the worst since 1927. Although the Utah was the hardest bit of the victims effected by nature's elements Wednesday, there have been more severe floods. The Utah Railway twas damaged seriously at three points including Peerless, Martin and Utah Junction. The flood seemed to hit According-t- o C. simultaneously Wednesday at when word about 6 p.m. came that Spring Canyon wash was full of water and had washed out road and rail beds at Peerless. A short time later, word came to Helper that Hardscrabble canyon had just unloosed the wildest torrent of water ever seen come out of .the canyon. And the waters from Gentile and other smaller canyons along the line between Martin and Castle Gate were also reported a short time later flood waters swirling sides, the Utah Power & Light company station at Martin suffered little or, no damage and only in one instance was the service to the many communities and patrons served by the company cut off.
