Ju.ne lO, 1Q3Q • A most delightful social affair of the mid-summer took place last Thursday evening at the ward chapel in the form of a banquet and dance, the result of the Book of Mormon reading contest in the Relief society. About thirty-five members and their husbands were present and enjoyed a most pleasant evening. Low crystal bowls of pink sweet peas and rose candles in silver holders formed an ideal color combination and background for a well arranged table setting. The guests were seated at two long tables in the dining hall. Mrs . Burgan of East Jordan stake. Immediately fv!lowing the banquet, the guests adjourned to the recreation hall, where Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Clayton conducted a series of songs and dances. Everyone reported a wonderful time. Miss Orpha Soffe spent last week in Salt Lake, a guest of relatives. Mrs. Francis J. Lennberg is undergoing treatment at a Salt Lake hospital for a couple of weeks. We hope for her successful return. A "husbands'" party was staged last Thursday evening by members of the Unity club of Union and East Midvale. Mrs. Clarence Wardell was hostess. Mrs. Earl Evans and Mrs. Clyde Soffe lead in a series of games and entertainment, following which luncheon was served. Those enjoying the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Lester Forbush, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Clayton, Mrs. Clyde Soffe, Mr. and Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Clarence Sharp of East Midvale, Mr. and Mrs. Chet Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Berrett of Union, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brown and Mrs. Mrs. Mildred Seddon and daughter, Virginia, of Salt Lake, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wardle and children. Miss Margaret Clayton, who is nursing at the L. D. S. hospit~U, spent Wednesday and Wednesday evening with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R . .ti. Clayton. Mrs. Hilma Wiles of Midvale visited Tuesday with Mrs. Sarah Bennett. Tuesday of last week the Trail Builders of the Primary, accompanied by their teacher, Mrs. Ralph Robbins, hiked to the sand pit. On the return trip a short visit was paid stake board member Mrs. Jack Shaw of Sandy, who served the boys light refreshments. Those enjoying the day were: DeRoyce Kartchner, Melvin, George and Lowell Young, Don Glover, Willie Lamson and Edward Robbins. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Larson and son Russell expect to leave Saturday morning for Bluff, Utah, where they will visit for ten days with Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Powell. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Nesslin and Mr. and Mrs. Phil Sharp and little son, Jack, spent Sunday with Mr. Charles Sharp and Mrs. Andrew Bradford. Mrs. Robert Milne, Sr., returned home last week from a two weeks' visit at Lehi, where she spent the time with Mr. and Mrs. Hy Milne. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Robbins and family returned home Monday of last week from a trip to Granddaddy lakes. Members of the Trail Builders class and their class leader, Mrs. Ralph Robbins, enjoyed a hike Tuesday of last week to the rock quarry in Little Cottonwood canyon. They also visited the oxygen plant. Don Glover, Arthur Glover, Melvin and Jay Young, Willie Lamson, George and Lowell Young, De Royce Kartchner and Edward Robbins enjoyed the trip. Mrs. Robert Milne, Sr., is spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Crouch of Salt Lake. Mrs. George T. Sharp entertained Friday of last week for members of the Art club. Seven members were present, and Mrs. Earl Ferguson was a special guest. After the business refreshments were dainty hour, served . Mrs. Amy Knowles has as her guests this week her son, Dr. L. E. There were ten girls present. Mrs. Spencer Miller and two sons, Loran and Douglas, Lucy Butterfield, Mrs. Alice Bowen and Mrs. Heber Butterfield were Salt Lake visitors part of last week. Mrs. Laura Sowby and Miss Mabel Cowby of Nephi were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Terris A. Ingram last week. Miss Theo Miller of Salt Lake is visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Olive Miller, for two weeks. . Junior Bigler returned to his home in Payson, Saturday, after spending ten days visiting relatives here. Miss Esther Crane and Miss Helen Christensen entertained at a party Saturday in honor of the birthday anniversary of Miss Elizabeth Crane. Games were played and refreshments were served to twenty guests. Mrs. George W. Dent, Miss Gertrude Dent and Kenneth Dent of Salt Lake, Mrs. Alice Bowen and daughters, Edna and Verna, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Butterfield and family, Friday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bodell and children, Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Stocking and Mrs. Emma Butterfield of Riverton were the dinner guests of Bishop and Mrs. Franklin T. Crane, Saturday, in honor of the birthday anniversary of their daughter, Elizabeth. The 4-H Stitch club met Tuesday a.t the home of Miss Annie Crane. There were ten present. Bishop Crane and daughters, Esther and Elizabeth, and Joseph Crane left Tuesday by motor to spend a week in Idaho. Miss Verla Ostler of Sandy is visiting this week at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. H . Bodell. • |
