Shaw and son, Grant, and daughter, Beth, spent past of last week in Big Cottonwood canyon. · i I A social was given by the Relief society of the Sandy First ward Tuesday -evening, at the First ward chapel, under the direction of captains of the reading contest, Mrs. Arthur Allsop and Mrs. H. Houston. The program included remarks by Mrs. Allsop and Mrs. Houston; duet, Mrs. Nora Bateman and daughter. Miss Melba Bateman; a paper by Mrs. Lillian Bishop; original poem by Mrs. Myrtle Ostler; reading, Mrs Zelma Thompson; duet by Mrs. Petttngill and her sister. Refreshments were served to about 50 guests. Miss Verda Rawson is spending the month at Ogden, the guest of her sister, Mrs. William Elmer. Frank Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Nelson, left Saturday for the citizens' military training school at Fort Douglas, where he will spend the month. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Crapo entertained at dinner Sunday ' at their nome. Their guests included Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Barton and ~- R. K. and Mrs. Veloy Pemman, a sister of Mrs. Wright, are yisiting relatives at Richfield. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Larson and three sons, and daughter, Mrs. Johnson of Firth, Idaho, were week-end guests of Mrs. W. L. Bateman. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Watkins of Ogden visited relatives at Sandy last week. Mrs. John Oldham was surprised by a number of friends at her home on East Second South street, last Wednesday evening. Supper was served at one long table and covers were laid for Mrs. Alice Sorenson, Mrs. Oscar Anderson, Mrs. Charles Lindell, Mrs. Allen Finlayson, Mrs. Matilda Levine, Mrs. Elsie Sloglund, Miss Thressa Lindell, Howard Johnson, Miss Molly Lindell, Mr. ana Mrs. John Oldham, and Mr. and Mrs. d Glen Len berg and son, Don, of Mi vale. A. of the Sandy First ward gave the following program at the First ward chapel Sunday evening. Singing, "High on the Mountain Top;~' prayer, J. Tolman; accordian solo, Rex Shaw; musical reading, Roy Bozsa; retold story, Miss Marvetta Hardcastle. Miss Hardcastle won second place at the stake finals in the retold story contest. A number from the Primary ~hvthm band; organ solo, Miss Roxie of the Improvement Era; closing song, "God Be With You;" prayer, Miss Veola Larson. The deacons and their teachers of the Sandy First ward enjoyed a weinie roast at the Murray power house Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. August M. Nelson entertained at dil)ller Wednesday evening at their home on East Second South, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gobel and family of Ashton, Idaho, and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew 0. Nelson of Sandy. Mr. and Mrs. Soren Rasmussen, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Rasmussen and family, Miss Gladys Rasmussen and Miss Erma Boulter spent Friday at Provo. The marriage of Miss Mabel Beckstead of South Jordan, and James D. Rawson, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Rawson, has been announced. The marriage took place May 1. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bigler and Miss Mildred Pace of Salt Lake, Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Nell of Lark, Mrs. Olive Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Christensen were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Miller, Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Neils A. Nielson and two sons, Almon and Glenn, of Sandy were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Crump and family part of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Freeman return· ed home Saturday evening after spending one week at Strawberry. Nephi Freeman is· visiting his mother, Mrs. E. J. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Bodell, Monday, July 7. Mrs. LeRoy Miller and infant daughter returned home Sunday after spending three weeks visiting Mr. and Mrs. Chris Poulsen of Salt Lake. Mrs. Sam Bodell and infant son returned home Sunday after spending two weeks at Murray. Blake Butterfield entertained at a rook party at his home Monday evening, complimenting his cousin, Miss Beverly Blake of Salt Lake, who is spending two weeks visiting here. The monthly social of the Relief society was held Tuesday afternoon in the ward house. A 4 o'clock luncheon was served to thirty members. The hostesses were Mrs. Heber Butterfield, Mrs. George Parry, Mrs. Forman, Miss Lorna Walker, Darrel Crane, Archie Eastman, Nat Crane, Loran and Douglas Miller and Heber Eastman. Games followed at the Miller home where the breakfast was held. Miss Cornelia Crane of Salt Lake is visiting her mother, Mrs. S. J. Crane this week. Mrs. J. H . Crwnp spent part of last week visiting friends in Coalville. Mrs. A. H. Eastman entertained a number of children at a party Tuesday evening in compliment of the birthday anniversary of her daughter, Jessie June. Mr. and Mrs. Will Forman and family spent part of the week in Butterfield canyon. Mrs. Ruth Davis spent part of the week visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George S. Smith in Salt Lake. 820 N.
