About 24 cijlizens were present, including representatives ·of the City, Civic organizations, \\'!Omen's clubs, in fact every faction oi. the city. Mayor L. A. Porter was chosen temporary chairman and P. S. Roberts temporary &ecretary of the general celebration committee. Later <the above named appointees were made permanent chairman and secretary, respectively. '!The chair announced that <the meet• ing was open for consideration of whether or not Midvale should or would celebrate the Fourth of July, 1926. Discussion followed on the raising -of funds. ·I Motion by C. I. Goff, properly seconded "that we u.~ our best efforts to put .over a good celebration on the 4th of July," carried unanimously. Discussion followed on committees necessary. Moved by Mr. Stagg, seconded and carried that the chair appoint a chairman of each of the following committees, said oominittee chairman haviing the power 'to appoint ibis own committeemen as many in number as he desire!. 1. Publicity committee. 2. Finance committee. 3. Pa11ade committee. 4. Splll'ts committee. 5. Dance committee. 6. Program committee. 7. Music oommittee. 8. Decorating committee. 9. Concessions wmmittee. The general chairman, Mayor Porter, .appointed Secretary P. S. Roberts, chairman of the publicity, who immediately appointed Fred Hyke aru:l Wm. Waters and members thereon. The chairmen of ·th~ remaining 8 committees will be named shortly. City marshal was appointed marshal of the day. It was reported that a flag pole w~uld be erected on tJhe city property at ·the corner of Center and Main streets by the Civic club, and that if same is not in place by the next meeting of the city council, that said council be requested to erect same. No doubt the program of the day will &tart off at sunri&e with the firing of the regulation salute, band concert about 9 a. m., street parade at 10 a. m., patriotic program at 11 a. m., basket picnic in grove at noon, children's exercises and sports in grove at 1 a. m. Sports of all kinds at ball grounds about 2 p. m., ball games at 4 p. m., band concerts, street dancing and grand ball at Imperial hall in <the evening. The above is only a tentative program and subject to change by the program committee. Three years have elapsed since Midvale celebrated and there is no reason why our 1926 clebration should not be the best ever. It can't be put over withowt the aid of every citizen in MidVJale. Are you willing to do your share? Results will tell the tale. There will be a meeting of the general committee at the city hall at 8 a. m., June 16th. Sunday morning at 10:45 a. m., at the Community church the Boy Scouts will raise the flag on the new flag pole which has been erected on the church lawn. SMELTER AND LIONS ~IE FOR HONORS I I Alex Dunn, editor and publisher of the Tooele Transcript-Bulletin says, "We have a great time planned for the members of the press club at the summer convt>ntion to be held in this city June 18, 19 and 20. The only dis, appointment will come if, perchance, the newspaper boys fail to show up." President Will R. Holmes visited Tooele two weeks .ago and met with the Lion's club and reports tha<t the entire city is enthusiastic over the coming eonvention. A great deal of trouble and expense is going on in preparation for this occasion. All factitms in- that beautiful little city are united in putting over this convention in a big way. They are preparing to entertain a large crowd and it would be unfair and poor judgment on our part if we fall to show up in numbers and make the T ooe1e convention the mos<t ·outstand- I The baseball game at the local grounds Tuesday evening was replete w.ith human interest and untimcd plays.
