CRAWf'ORD ICaroline Kimball Age 13 8th Grade Draper Park School Miss Laura Shepherd, TeaCher Mr. E. L. Crawford, South Jordan School, Dear Mr. Crawford, !, Caroline Kimball, by perrmss.wn <Jf Mr. Beck, our principal, and in be-half of our Junior High School Students, will reply to your weloome letter. It wa&' stated in your letter that Draper had not as yet had a showing in the oontest. True, but fro m the Draper Students, 'quality ranks higher than quantity'. We were, ·however, justified in our reason, up to the time of your letter, for not having items in "The Jordan Journal.'' We fully felt the need of organizai ton before attempting to print our names in ti1e "Hall of Fame." And now that we are fully <Jrganized, (although we are not over selfconfident) you will find our news items c<Jntain nothing but the best, and I dare say are hard to surpass. We compliment you, Mr. Crawford, on your timely reminder. Perhaps it was this that determ~ned us to work as hard as possible toward the winning of the contest. We shall be glad to receive such encouragem ent at any tame. Respectfully , Caroline Kimball. Age 14 Evelyn Day Grade 7th School Park Draper Miss Laura Shepherd, Teacher This year in Draper the beet crop is very good. Some of the beet farm s in Draper average good yield, some 27 to 28 tons to the acre. The farmers have been hauling between 50 to 60 tons of beets per day to the beet dump, and they are getting $6.00 a ton for their beets. The first two weeks, the farmer s were in the beets, the weather kept very good, but this last week it has b('>en stormy and wet, but ' the farmers are working again. They think they are bing well paid for the trouble they had in raising this crop and are well pleased with the yield and prices. I W4t illijrtntmna ~tft ~uprrmr!
