We wete all proud of Golden when he .sold his fir.st gallion of gas, for we 1·ealize this is an improvemen t for our town. The night was dark and the wind w'hi~led .and screl)dhed iDJ ~ ghostly way. The cllildren took a pumpkin, cut large holes fol' eyes and mouth, and put kernels of corn in the mouth for teetlh. They fastened the jack o' lantern on a stick and threw a sheet over it. They stuck the stick in the ground and ran to hide until :their father should come. Wlhile they were wai!ting the sheet began .to sway back and forth. Now it was. lifted up and down. TJ:J.e litr .tie boy and girl were so frightened! Once more they looked. Again they .saw the !Sheet mloving faster :Uind) faster. They turned and ran as they had never ran before! Soon ;they met 'lfueir fathed. ...They told him that a ghost was playing with their jack olantem. We'll see about that! said .the father. For one month they will go on d(}ing their daily work and tlhe nlli;takes will be counted. At the end of the month the side thart doesn't win will have to buy peanuts and treat the other side.
