DISARMAMENT STUDY IS ON AT GENEVA MEETING; GOY· ERNMENT WATCHING MEMBER OF PRESIDENT'S AIR· CRAFT BOARD SCORED BY WASHINGTON LAWYER . REMOVAL ORDER BECl\ME EF· FECTIVE SEPT. NINETEENTH PROBE OPENS Invitation Is Expected In Washington Asking That Representatives Be Sent To The Gath· ering in Europe If Apologist Is Permitted To Preside' Utterings Of Colonel Is Given As Cause For His Being Removed From Position; Has No· thing To Say Geneva-The question whether the United States is to be invited to send experts tQ Geneva to aid in the technical preparations for the league of nations disarmament confer~nce, on the holding of which the leaders of the assembly of the league, including delegates to Great Britain an•l Ftance have reached an accord, and whether Americans will si~ on the study commis'Sion still remains unarl!;wered. The principal spokesmen for the various clelega~ions are side· stepping the question, ;;aying that it is one for the assembly as a whole to reply to. The preparations for the disarmament conference are to ~tart immediately, but in accordance with the agreement reached recently to hold it, convocation will occur only when the council of the league is sure that security has been attained. "A commission to study for the reduction and limitation of armaments" will be the name of the new organism. All states having special interests in the disarmament problem and which are not represented in the council will have a place on the commission: It is generally conceded that an invitation will be forwarded to Washington to send experts to Geneva to as~iRt in the preparatory work, but doubt is expressed that the United States• will consent to place its representatives under such direct control of the council if the league as is envisaged for the commission. Tijuana Has Costly Fire Tijuana, Mex.-Fire starting in the kitchen of the Vernon club, a resort in this below-the-border drinking town, swept an entire block and caused damage estimated at $1,000,000. The blaze, one of the most disastrous in Tijuana's history. ,destroyed the San Francisco cantina, the Trivoli bar, the Log Cabin safe, San Diego bar, Gonzales bar, Alhambra cafe, the Lower California Commercial company's curio store and the Turf bar. During the early sweep of the fire the flames were fanned by a high wind, which hampered the efforts of the fire fighters. Tijuana's sole piece of fire apparatus a combination hose and chemical w'agon, was powerless to save the blazing structures. Lack of water also hindered the work of those combating the blaze. A chemical wagon from Chula Vista, Cal., responded to a call for help and aided in saving adjoining buildings. The wind died down about an hour and a half after the fire started, allowing firemen to get the blaze under control. Had the breeze kept up it is believed the whole town would have been wiped out. Suicides H'•fd In Contempt Saloniki, Greece--So greatly has the number of suicides increased in Greece recently that authorities have issued an order providing for a burial place for persons who end their own lives, soeparate from places where persons who die natural deaths are interred. The cemetery for suicides adjoins the grounds where dogs are buried and where refuse is cast. It is hoped this diS'play of public contempt for suicides will discourage the practice.
