At that time there were only woodworki ng tools. Now the shop Is equipe d to handle woodwork, sheet metal work, plumb ing, electri city, mechanic al drawin g, letteri ng, rope work wood finishing, leathe r work and cement work. The object of this extens ive program of studie s is not to make experts of the boys in all or any of the branch es of skilled labor, but Ita obpect Is to give the boys wide e;xperience in Indust rial arts with the hope that they will tl.nd one trade suitable to their tastes and needs. Even If the Indivi dual boy does not find tha the cares for any of these occupation s, his time has not been waste d becau se he has learne d the mecha nical knowl edge and skill that Is so necessary for the averag e Ameri can in this age of scienc e and machi nery. If the boy tl.nds that he desire s to pursue one of these trades , he can contin ue his work in detail at the high school. The studen t's work is necess arily contl.ned to simple projec ts.
