C staff The spirit of the season was on display Friday night at Lindquist Field as the Ogden Raptors celebrated the efforts of Hill men and women courtesy of the Top of Utah Military Affairs Committee. Officially kicking off the July 4 weekend, the scene at the game couldn't have been more fitting. The entire left field section of bleacher seats was filled with Team.Hill members and their families. The Raptors even donned camouflage uniforms in honor of the troops. Members of Team Hill also took part e in ceremonies. The Hill Honor Guard presented the Flag for the National Anthem and Col. Robert Shofner, 526th ICBM Systems Wing commander, threw pre-gam- out the ceremonial first pitch to Raptors manager Lance Parrish. The game itself was an exiting marathon that saw the Raptors lose by one run with the bases loaded. Most of the fans were long gone by that point. Early in the sixth inning fans rapidly flooded the exits as heavy rain flooded the field and bleachers. The game was delayed for about 40 minutes before the game resumed. Although the evening was cut short for most of the fans, many of them were glad they attended. "My dad is a retired pilot from the Air Force, so I'm familiar with all the sacrifices military people make for our country," said Kim Zolik. "It's nice to see a game like this where the local community rec ognizes all of our military. It helps people remember what they do for us." Ogden resident and Raptor season ticket holder Paul Rose said the game represented everything good about America and the freedoms we enjoy here. "Baseball and Hill Air Force Base - it doesnt get any more American than that Mr. Rose said. "It's good to come out here on a night where we celebrate our military and all that it does for us. Seeing the players in their (camouflaged uniforms) you cant help but think of the people who serve our country. I brought my kids and it's a good opportunity to tell them who the real heroes are in this world. Without our troops past and present, we might not be sitting here enjoying this great Ameri. can game." 3 r |
