V r There was one point raised by the city auditor the low price of lots in the City Cemetery. And no wonder. Who cares to buy a lot there any more? A purchaser has no assurance that be will ever use it as sure as death is and the council has been to execute. That cemetery has been ordered closed and in the interests of health and in pursuance of a necessity that is now ripe. The order should be enforced. There are two important interest tbac the council did not etir up last night the streets and walks. A whole lot of people are very anxious for something to be done in those lines. And everybody is more anxious for practice than promises. Push things. THEY MUST WORK. As a citizen remarked yesterday, "no set of business men can win success unless they give sufficient time and attention to what they are doing." That is true. Success is won in any business only by earnest thought and work. A man must be full of what he is managing to produce any impression on a busy world. He must be intense. He must even be enthusiastic. This is true of a single store, a bank, a carpenter, a lawyer, a doctor. And when it comes to managing the broad affairs of a big city, how much more is it true. A mayor, or council, that expects to do justice to the affairs of a place like Ogden must be devoted, earnest, energetic. They must endure annoyance, withstand vexation, expect fatigue, and, in fact, must of ten sacrifice their own interests to some extent for the public good. And any man who is not willing to do all that has no business to hold either office. But to Buppose he can lie down and go to sleep, as Ogden's officials have done for nearly seven months, shows a total failure to camprehend the requirements of those otlices, or a most reprehensible indifference to duty. The people of a city should be very careful to have at least a preponderance of business men in the council. They should be men who have handled affairs of size of their own. A college professor is all right in his place but is not likely to be much account as chairman of a street committee. A mayor must be a man of broad ideas; must understand how to meet the requirements of a public position, and therefore neebs general public experience and sound business judgment. But earnest purpose and hard work are worth a good deal, and if an officer tries hard he can make an approach to satisfactory results. A correspondent has a .criticism on the recent excursion of the Rio Grande Western Railroad to Salina, in this paper, called out by the discrimination in selling excursion tickets to excursionists from Grand Junction. The officers of that rood should give Ogden fair and imartial treatment and then everything will go well. Ogden is disposed to insist upon its rights no more, no less. Mexico too applies for the benefits of reciprocity. It looks as though the be solid JLnericis would soon for Blaine's pet policy. Mexico'3 trade is large and with reciprocal encouragement would no doubt prove muuh more extensie. The tight will without doubt be one of the most hotly contested ever witnessed. Both men are in prime condition and practically neither has any advantage over the other. They are each exceedingly clever in the manly art and have won quite a number of battles in the past. Excursions to the city on all railroads will bring in a large number of attendants, and from present indications the opera house will oe filled to overflowing. The opera house has been leased by the Athletic Club for the tight owing to the fact that the club's rooms would be inadevuate to the needs of the occasion.
