Mr. Kobison took th cra to Logan City and drove up Logan canon one of the object of the trips being to determine beyond any question the caareet and best route from Ogden to Bear Lake. The party kept an accurate time table, goiDg and returning, and they have settled the question in faror of our own A Cdo OUOU CA90X ROCTE. The game they shot, the fish they caught, and the scenery they saw is by their account simply marvelous but we let them tell their own story only saying that the roster of game seen or shot by tbem include bear, deer, coyotes, porcupines, herons, hawkes, ducks, sage heua, pine heoa, grouse, chickens, pigeons, blue lake trouU, mountain her- rinit and brook trout. Kuitob Commercial: Everybody in Ogtlen has heard of Bear Lake, and doubtless many of the older residents have visited it Its beauty bad been so extolled that we determined to "go, look, see," as John Chinaman would say, for themselves. Upon inquiry, we soon discovered that wbile everybody knew of the lake, very few knew anything defin- ite of the DISTANCE OB BEST BOCTE to take to reach it Logan City, Brig-ha- m City, and Ogden each claimed the nearest and best route, but as we were Ogden men, we decided to take the Ogden canon route. We wished to demonstrate, it possiole, that Bear Lake was Ogden's natural summer resort and could be reached from Ogden by a shorter and pleasanter route than by any of the other mountain canons. For this purpose we kept A3 AOCUEATE TIME TABLE the entire trip in going, and also on our return by way of Blacksmith Fork to Brigham City. These time tables we give below, and they show beyond any question that the Ogden canon route is six hours shorter, or shout twenty-fiv- e miles, than either the Brigham City or Logan canon routes. We started at 8;30 a. m., August 9th, reached Winslow's at 10 a. m.,liuntsvUle at 11:30 a. m. and the entrance to South Fork at 12:45 p. m. Here we lunched and ted our team. Starting again at 2:10 r. m. we reached Beaver at 3:30 p. m. From this point up Beaver canon all the way to the lake, we found ourselves literally in the mountains, with capital The fashing and hunting all the way. road through CANOIf 18 CHARMING, BEAVEB willows and shade trees, nearly all the way, and the view from the summit divide, must be seen to be appreciated. At 7:30 p. m. we reached a Herder's log house about a mile over the divide, where we camped for the night, and were made welcome with true cowboy hospitality. Everything was put at our disposal. Here was a beautiful spring bubbling out of the level ground, with a flow of water sufficient to form a creek. The two cowboys who lived here spied us over a mile away and it winds through CAME OUT TO MEET C9 on their ponies, at full gallop, in full cosslouch hats, tume, 4,chaps" and larriets. Just where we met we had to cross the stream, the banks were high and rocky; the bed of the stream muddy, in fact a difficult place to cross with our tired horses. Quicker than thought the lassoes were unwound; one end of each tied round the pole of our wagon, and the other wound about the horn of the saddles. Then with a bound leaping from the ground into their saddles, the cowboys sang out, "We'll take you across, let go your brake," we were broad-brimme- . d OVER IT LIKE A CYCLONE, All of the pirty looked anxious but our bronchos were the most surprised of the lot. One of our party we found on the further bank with his hat off and on his knees praying for a kodak. He said it was not fear but his artistio instinct which caused him to leap from the wagon just before the cowboys whooped up their poniej.
