Ths Liberal oountjr convention of Weber county oa Saturday at tbe Grand opera bousa should be a large and enthusiastic) meeting. Every man who belierea in the old party of Defense and Pmgreaa should be there. Every man who doubts tha wiadotn of now turning Utah over to the mercy of the Mormon politicians should be there. Every man in Oden who knows that the Liberal party bought prosperity to Ogden and Utah should ba there. Every man who believea that the oontinu anoe s of that prorfre! dapends upon the of the Liberal party should be buo-ces- there Every man who is not ready to turn the publio schools of Ogden and Utah over to tbe Mormon church managers should be there. Every man who desires a ticket in tbe field of Weber county's best and ablest men should be there. Every man who does not wish to give aid and comfort to the scheme to turn Utah into a Mormon state should be there. Every mm who can and will not consent to any device that threatens to continue indefinitely the political rule of church hierarchy should be there. This is the time to act or never. It is simply question of whether the Mormon church, after aa unbroken record of forty years in tetching and practicing a palitical tyranny totally and condemned by the whole Union, has become converted in a day and has itself without protest of prerogatives it claimed by divine right for nearly half a century. That convention is a council of safety, and every Liberal should be there. The Timet must be hard up when it has to pipe such nonsense as that to console its lacerated feelings and blue forebodings of another drubbing from the Liberals. It will get it all right No man can pretend to deny that the Mormon church can rule Utah as a state if it wants to. And no man can give any reliable assurance that it will not want to. There was no sign of hesitation in it. It was not in doubt whether it was right or not. It went at the business of putting a noble ticket in the field for county and e liblegislative offices with the eral enthusiasm. It did not quarrel over quibble3. It went straight to the point and put men in nomination about whose fitness aud popularity there is no question. And it put no men on guard but liberals. Then it adopted a ringing platform, Btating clearly and fully why the Liberal party has been in the Held, and why it muf-- t continue there. And finally it has Ju ig O. V. And what is now going on here and elsewhere in the territory isin pursuance of a preconcerted plan by tbe Mormon politicians. It means that Utah is to be a state. That they will then be freed from the control of congress and can be supreme in Utrb as they used to be. The time has not come when a church that has practiced political arrogance for two generations can be trusted to take possession of Utah as a state on a plan of cunning and deception. The liberals every one of thera should rally to tbe defense of Veber county and Utah at the convention of Saturday evening. SALT LAKE LIBERALS.
