Wtirtele, of the Wyoming division of the Union Pacitic, who accompanied the government railroad commissioners here a few days ago, expects to return to Cheyeone today. J. IL Millard, of the Union Pacific, was expected to arrive in his private car with the Southern Pacific fast mail this morning. From this place he goes to Salt Luke City. E. E. Calvin, superintendent of the Idaho Division, came to Ogden yesterday to confer wit h General Superintendent Uancroft. lie went to Salt Lake City in the afternoon. The Union Pacific is laying new steel tracks on the Utah division south of Salt Lake City and are going to put the tracks in first class shape. A. G. Hart, of the Southern Pacific, returned yesterday from a tour of inspection over his division. Thomas Orchard, chief clerk of railway mail service, has gone north on an extended trip to Helena, XSutte and other points in that vicinity. '4 R. L. Darling, chief clerk of Resident Engineer Fitzgeral of the Southern Pacific, has returned from Ileno, Xev., where he had gone in connection with matters relating to Mr. Fitzgerald's division. F. Mertsheimer, assistant superintendent of machinery of the Union Pacific at Cheyenne, who had been in the city for a few days visiting General Superintendent Bancroft, has returned to that place. Fred Michelstetter, a well known railroad man of Milwaukee, and P. li. Ward, of St Louis, were registered at the Pacific hotel yesterday. Resident Engineer Fitzgerald of the Southern Pacitio accompanied the gover ment railroad commissioners as far west as the end of his division. Mr. Fitzgerald has more territory to look after than one would suppose, it extends almost to the western Btate line of Nevada. Mrs. W. G. Ingram, of Omaha the wife of operator Ingram in Dave Cash-mortelegraph ollice, has been at the Hot springs for the past week on account of rheumatism. She returned to this city almost recovered. Commissioner Hill of the Demurrage association of Denver is in Salt Lake for a few days visit The Rio Grande Southern will no longer caary passengers on freight trains. This is by a recent order of President Means and is causing much kicking among patrons of the road. The president will be asked to rescind the order. At Denver a few days ago the Superintendents association met at the office of Superintendent Touhey at the Union depot, Owing to the absence of General Superintendent Duncan of the Union Pacific and Superintendent Lawrence of the Midland no important business w as transacted. On the occasion of the celebration of the opening of the state bridge and Odd Fellows' celebration at Glenwood Springs the Rio Grande will give a special rate of $10 for the round trip from Denver. Tickets good to return via the Midland. A committee appointed by the Train Dispatchers Association of America has been in session at Chicago considering the Linn convention code ofj rules for running trains. After going over the rules carefully the committee drew up a report reoommending changes which it decided upon and which will be submitted to the next convention of the association to be held at Toledo June 2ti. Matters of vital importance to our city w ill be discussed and action taken. We desire to have the views of the taxpayers nnd all classes of people freely given on iho important question of raving portions of Washington, Grant, Lincoln and Wall avenues, and Twenty-fourt- h and Twenty fifth streets, with a view of obtaining estimates of the cost and devising the best method of raising funds therefor, and bringing the matter to the attention of the (Jily Council for such action as it may deem proper and expedient in the premises. There will also be discussed the question of pro moting and devising plans to induce and procure capital for the construction of iron foundries, railroad shops, other rail roads, slaughter yards and other impor tant questions lor the beneht or man ufact uring and commercial interests of our city and its inhabitants. Great things are in store for us in the near future and it is fitting important and proper that they be thoroughly discussed and ventilated, and the best possible means adopted to accomplish them. The members of the City Council and business men are especially invited, with a view of working in harmony and in making our work as effective as possible. This is no time to discuss discouragement on the part of any of Ogden 's citThe almost immediate future of izens. Ogdan is brighter today than it has ever been before. Many gigantic enterprises of a tangible and beneficial character awaiting our encouragement and sup port. Men of Ogden, do not lapse into inaction, but let us girdle about ourselves the armor of business enterprise and with proper efforts on our part we shall make of Ogdon, with its many fold advantages, the brightest and most pleasant place for habitation and busi ness in all the great and growing west.
