On examination it waa found that the overcoat and undercoat had been burned through from the outside, and also the vest aa far as the lining. The hole in the overcoat is twe or three inches wide and four or five Inches long. A leather book in the an derooet containing some papers was bad ly burned on the lower end and the pa pers therein were scorched. Mr. Earle thinks there is no doubt that the mischief waa caused by the spark from the electrio car, and no other solution of the matter sterns possible, since Mr. Earle does not smoke, and the burns In the clpthing rre not of the sort to be started from such a source. The street railway tracks were very wet that night, and this of itself would tend to dissipate the electric fluid as it entered the rails. Taken altogether, Mr. Earle's experience was certainly a singular one. Springfield Republican. vao Itrea ta WcrthinrU rs-ca- oti rt ' Tin for Early Oard.a Work. Tree and vine pruning should be completed before growth commences. Peas for an early crop need to be got in as early as the ground can be worked. The wrinkled, or sugar peat, should be held tmta the ground warms a little. Those Intending to roire onions by the new plan of starting the seeds in cold frames should have everything in readiness and gut the seed in early, and have the young plants In readiness to set out as soon as the ground, can be put in good order. The advantages claimed by this method are full rows, a longer season of growth and less expense in cultivating and keeping clean, the expense sa ved in the last item making op for the extra cost of transplanting. A much greater yield is claimed for the method. But no time is to be lost in preparing the soil for onion seed to be sowed in the rows where the crop is to grow. The preparation and sowing cannot be done too soon. The seeds of lettuce and early cabbage, cauliflower, celery, tomatoes and radish will need sowing at intervals as required, and the hotbeds and the forcing pits will command daily care. Seeds of biennial and parennial flowering plants can be put in at once. ; Sweet peas in the open ground should be planted at the earliest opportunity; they should make their best growth in the cooler weather of the spring. Lawns can be seeded to grass as soon as the ground can be properly put in ' order. All kinds of work that can be done in the garden should be pushed along and be out of the way when the hurrying time comes later, as it surely will. Tick's Magazine. A Cfaarch j of Orange. The Palermo (Mon.) Fruit Growers' association, which recently affiliated with the California Bute Board of Trade, sent to San Francisco a largo model of the Union church, which is lo cated at Palermo colony in Butte. The model has been erected in the board of trade rooms, and is now on exhibition. Tba miniature church is an exact model in every detail of the original, and just its size. It is 10 feet in length, 6i feet wide and lit feet in height The roof, gables and bell tower are covered with oranges, some thou mads of which are used, while In the windows and around the pedestals are Mjranged exhibits of nuts, dried and fresh fruits and other products of the colony. As the oranges used in decorating the church wither they will be taken away and fresh fruit substituted until the orange season Is over, when other traits, dried and fresh, will be need for decorating, making it a standing unique advertisement of the resources of Paler mo. New York Recorder. Poiaoncd by Bli Eaar Chair. A distinguished citizen passed away recently under circumstances which will arouse a feeling or sorrow in those who realize how life might have been pre Samuel C. Cobb was served. one of the sturdiest of Bostonians. But srradually he began to fail in health, with such slowness that the decline was not noticed until it had gone far, very far, but with a fatal sureness that no medical skill could at the last avert It was all a mystery. The physicians doctored him for this and for that, surmis ing now one disease and another, until at the last moment, just a few weeks be fore his death, they discovered the real trouble. Arsenical poisoning was at the root, and that poisoning had been steadily going on for years. Bis curtains, his wall paper, and, more particularly, ma favorite easy chair, were made of material that contained the deadly arsenic, and the poor man had unknowingly been breathing in the poison while supposing he was resting and gaining strength. It was very sad. Boston Cor. New York Commercial Advertiser. ,u I I I e; friederich. Mrs CUCUMBER AND ELDER Tl MAT Grand Special Sale (INCORPORATED.)
