A Pennsylvania railroad conductor 00 one of the limited trains between New York and Washington the other night entered the first coach, found it crowded, and In one of tto front eeata upon the left waa ft young man, BewaawelL even elegantly, dressed. In his hand be held a French novel. Upon his small and ordinary countenance there sat the haughty look of reserve of tto Imitation gentleman. When the conductor entered and called for the tickets this yonthful person affected to be so absorbed in hi book that the conductor passed him by, calling first upon the rest of the passengers, even going clenr through the train before he returned to disturb the haughty reader When the conductor came back the young person still refused to pay any attention. The conductor waited a moment and then called out rather sharply for his ticket The youthful and now thoroughly contemptuous person, noticing that the man, whom he called the guard of the train, had addressed him with some bruequeneas, which he translated into rudeness, took his ticket and, without looking at the conductor, threw it upon the floor. The graduate of the Pennsylvania school of manners was fully equal to this unusual situation. He showed no temper, no excitement, nor any lack of repose. With the calm gravity of a man who is sure of himself he stooped to the floor, punched the fallen ticket the requisite number of times with great gravity, and then quietly laid it back upon the floor where it had been dropped and walked calmly on amid the roars of tte entire car. They are made from the refuse of the agate and stone quarries in that neighborhood. The stone is broken into small cubes by Idows of a light hammer. These small blocks of stone are thrown by the shovelful into the ' 'hopper of ft small mill, formed of a bed of stone, having its surface grooved with concentrated furrows; above these is the "runner," which is made of hard wood having a level face on its lower surface. The upper block is made to revolve rapidly, water being delivered upon the grooves of tto bed stone where the marbles are being rounded. It takes about fifteen minutes to finish a bushel of good marbles ready for "snapping." One mill will turn out 170,000 marbles ixr week. The very hardest "crackers," as the boys call them, are made by a slower process, somewhat analogous, however, to the other. New. Ycrk Telegram. A Had Kaoe. Mrs. Drabbins (who has been reading at the performances of a somnambulist) The paper says that last night a man Jumped out of a window to the roof of another house, and ran along that till he came to a church roof, when he leaped to that and climbed up the steeple.
