The barometer kept tithing and the storm iiiereasicg. but the vobsel eoutiuued on that coursu until 8 o'clock last evening, heo the eap-tui- a Gwucg Ler cj to tbe northwest It was then bloa iag a southerly gale and a thick fog prevailed, with rain squalls, and the crew could not sw any distance ahead. About 10 o'clock the vessel struck on the rocky and sandy beach, higti up in the breakers. Owiugto tbe etorm the men could not see or hear the breakers until after tbe vetsel struck. The sea was breaking so fiercely on the shore that it meant sure death to attempt to land in boat. The crew started tires on tbe deck by burning the bed clothes and thtir own clothing saturated with oil to attempt to attract the attention of tho&e on shore. For hours they kept these tires burning, and at last two young men, William and Daniel Mosher, saw the signal tires and hurried to the assistance of those on board. When Capt. Morgan discovered tbeui on the beach he threw into the water a tub containing a light line. The breakers swept the tub toward the land, and when it got near enough a dog belonging to tha Moshers 6am out and secured it. By tbe aid of the line a hawser was hauled to the ehore and secured. Then the crew, eight in number, had to scramble ashore hand over hand, being dashed about by the heavy waves, and often finding it as much as they could do to retaia thoir hold oa the rope. One man, the cook, was so exhausted that he fainted before he reached shore, and had to be carried along by two brave rescuers. It took two hours to rescue the men from their perilous position, and they suffered extromely from the cold and wet. The Senator Morgan wnBof 86 tons register, and was owned by F. Hedge of Gloucester. Jri fou Newfoundland Angry. The people of New Yop.k, Feb. Newfoundland are wrathful over the failure of tho recent reciprocity negotiations. Says the St John Telegram: "It seems that the mischief has been wrought at London, not at Washington. Canada has no influence w ith the Amer- li ican government, not a particle, but with the imperial government it ia different. Sir John Mcdonald and Sir Charles Tupper, who are in effect the Dominion government, have managed to persuade the imperial authorities that a treaty between the United States aud Newfoundland would be detrimental to the interests of Canada, and so her Majesty's consent is withheld. "We do not know on what principle of equity or fair play Premier Salisbury justifies his anomalous conduct in this respect, but we do know that the moral effect of the British government's action in refusing its sauction to this trade treaty, ater delegating to our commission full power to negotiate it, will have a damaging influence in the colonies in general on the reputation for integrity and honesty of Euglish statesmen What colony will now care to trust the British government, in view of the faithless manner in which it has acted toward us?"
