Mr. Brown ith tjotkl nets in regard to tha matter, which ia aa follows: Am aaa stated by The Conntn an offer of f 40.0UO had baen mode byil,Mr. Brown arid other for tba old plant, and peraiateotly refused. However, on Saturday laist Mr. Brown' mgeul in Denver authorized to raise the offer to $M,. (XM, and yesterday morniug a letter waa received from Mr. (iilluly, treasurer of tha Denver Bio Grande railroad, accepting that offer on condition that tha aewer tax adseaaed against the property . of tltXi be assumed by tLe The property in question include the old blakt furnace, which by the way is ta acrea of good aa near, a oil tnirty-thre- e land surrounding it The price to be paid ia an extremely low cne aa the land with the furnace in operation ia eabily worth filKO per acre. For several years past Mr. I. E, Brown baa been working to establish an iron man industry in Ogden. lie u thoroughly acquainted with the business both aa to the raw material and the manufactured product Home time since an assay of some of our ore waa sent on to Pittsburg to men interested there in the iron business and they contended that bo eucb ore existed in the United States. To convince them a considerable sample of the ore waa shipped them by Mr. Brown and upon assay it waa found to be even richer than the assay sent from Ogden. The result waa that men of large meana in that city said that whenever the thing waa in ehape to capitalize there would be 91,000,000 there for the enterprise. Mr. Brown obtained leases and bonds on varioua iron properties in and about Ogden and made the offer for the old blaat furn tee aa before stated. This furnace cost its projectors $100,000 to build and at the present price ia a great bargain. Now that Mr. Brown's offer has been accepted and all other arrangements made to go on with the work be Las called a halt for a very simple and worthy purpose. It is this. Although the money ia already and the mines are secured as well as the present plant, he does not wish to begin operations uutil Ogden capital has been given an opportunity to take hold of this local industry. He proposes to go before the Chamber of Commerce setting forth the great benefits to be derived from this industry and open a subscription for etock to local men, as he dosiresvery much to keep the control of the stock in Ogden. It is proposed to form a company capitalized at something like $1,000,000, putting in the various mines and the present plant and land at a fair valuation, and after enough local subscription has been made to control the enterprise here, to throw the balance of the 6tock upon the open market. Mr. Brown pursues this plan entirely through a feeling of local pride and ambition to have the enterprise a strictly Ogden affair, lie is not asking a favor by any moans, as money stands ready at his command in the east to open the enterprise at once. This, however, might have a bad result. It baa already been done once, and the result was the shutting down of the plant entirely to protect the larger plants in Colorado. What is wanted now is an to company prepared independant operate these works and go into the open market of competition regardless of what the Colorado companies do in the matter. There is no chance of failure for we have the richest ores iu the world and also the fuel for handling it here. Labor is as cheap here as elsewhere and the local consumption of the product would demand all the works couid produce. It ia to be hoped that the company may be formed hare so that Ogden may enjoy the benefits therefrom. But even should it not be so there is no question of our having the iron works and they wi lbe followed with rolling mills and steel works for foreign capital stands ready to take hold of the matter should local capital fail to do so. Within a year Ogden will be one of the iron producing and manufacturing cities of the world and her fame will grow and spread until Ogden iron and steel shall stand at the head, the world over. tt 4A uiMh.
