Her husband was known as "Micky" Burns to all the river men, ships' crews, and stevedores in the port of Chicago. "Micky's" junk Ehop was a favorite place, and had a reputation that reached to every port on the inland lakes. Ho bought some land on the river near Kinzie and Canal streets. The Northwestern road laid ita tracks over the river to its depot on the north side, and it happened that they extended four inches on "Micky's" land. There was talk of condemnation, but as the house was not in the way they were unsuccessful. Then the fun began. About four timos a year the railroad company got bills of damages from "Micky" for the plaster that was regularly shaken off hia ceilings by the passing of the trains. and They were contemptuously rejected, the owner finally started to retaliate. He painted his house occasionally, and whon he did so, or wanted to drive a nail over a second story window, he waited until it was time for a train to pass, when he carefully placed the foot of his ladder over one of the tracks, just within his own property, and crawled up the rounds. The train came, but the engineer did not dare to knock "Micky" down, as he knew the man had a perfect right to do whflt he pleased on hie own premises. So "Micky" sat there for hours, hammering away or swipping a clapboard with a paint brush. No entreaties would bring him down, and the whole system of the Chicago and Northwestern was blocked. Several time3 he climbed upon the ridgepole of his house with a shotgun, and threat encd to shoot the first engineer that drove on engine over his ground. It took a good sharo of Chicago's police force those days to get him down. A few years ago "Micky" died, and his widow, Bridget, did not koep up tbo hostilities, and at last was compelled to sell her house. 3ut sho got a good prise for it. S20.00 cloaks for $10.00 at I. L. Ogden interested in the public library A movement is called for tomorrow night at 7:30 o'clock at the city hall, for the purpose of effecting a permanent organization, electing officers and discussing the project in detail. The work is now well along in its inception, and so far has met with gratifying encouragement. All residents of the city who have the success of this commendable enterprise at heart should attend, and encourage it by their presence and willing offers of assistance. The ladies of Ogden are especially urged to be there, for upon this meeting and the spirit manifested by the public depends the fate of Ogden'a library. The mass meeting of the chamber of commerce which was to have been held tomorrow evening at the federal court room, has been postponed until Monday night in deforence to the wishes of the library promoters, that every one may have a chance to attend.
