Commissioner Perrin had an interesting case in his court yesterday, leing nothing more or less than a Gentile On New Year's of polygamy. day the deputy marshal arrested Dell Wright of Ogden. on a warrant issued by Commissioner John E. Hills, of Provo, and brought him for a preliminary hearing before Commissioner Perrin. The complaint was sworn out bv Wright's first wife, Katie t, and charges her husband with having taken into himself a second better half on the 14th of last October. It appears that Wright came from Colorado Springs, Colorado, during the the past year, leaving his wife at home in the Centenial State, and finding life in the wild west without a mother-in-larather discouraging, set about devis ing ways and means of bettering his condition. Being rather a smooth young man, he is about thirty years old, and gifted with a flow of gab, he susceeded in passing himself off among the people of Provo and vicinity as a genuine simon pure brand of bachelor and was accorded free He finally access to the best society. persuaded a young lady named Adam-son- , of Morman parentage, living near to marry him, although the Provo, parents were much opposed to the match and have not yet forgiven the daughter for marrying contrary to their wishes. This latter fact account for the marriage occurring in Ogden and the subsequent residence here. The deserted wife by accident heard of the affair and came to Provo to investigate. On learning of the whereabouts of her recreant husband she made the complaint and Wright was arrested. He has been in Ogden, since his marriage, employed at a decorator in the employ of T. C. Morris. Upon Deing arrested he en gaged as his attorney the firm of Painter A Murphy. His attorneys called on his wife and werejthe first to inform her of Wright's arrest and that she was not his legal wife. The news was a complete surprise to her and she fainted away and She was for some time insensible. partially recovered from the shock, but has since remained in a half dazed condition and seems to be unable to realize the truth that her romance was ended and her idol shattered. As she is without money or friends and practically disowned by her relatives, her condition is indeed a pitiable one. Wright was arraigned on the day of his arrest and his examination was set for yesterday, but when the case came up and he learned that his first wife would appear against him, he waived examination and bond was fixed at 12,000. Being unable to give this he was taken yesterday evening to the penitentiary by Deputy Marshal McClellan. The "full penalty for his offense, if it should be proven that he is guilty, is a fine of 1500 and five years in imprisonment, and as he can scarcely urge the excuse of religious belief it is possible that Mr. Wright has not heard the last of this affair. The case was argued at length, the defendants' lawyers going over al! the law and discussion offered Judge Blackburn at the time Mr. Cahoon's petition for a receiver was before the court.
