Tins wound penetrated the brain in nearly horizontal direction and ranging slightly forward. It look as if it might have been made w ith a 32 calibre bullet. Dr. Powers is of the opinion that it is not a bullet wound, but waa made by some sharp instrument. Another auiull wound is found about an inch nearer the top of the head. The man's lij are bruised on the left as if ho bail been struck or had fallen forward m his face. There are no other wounds on the TUukTbu e liodv. Wallace is a ainter and decorator by trade anil one week ago yesterday came to Ogden from Salt Like with the intention of looking for employment. He engaged rooms of a ladv, whose name at her request is ithheld, at 2475 Jefferson avenue. Following is the story as told by the landlady to a Co.mmkim iai. reKrter yesterday afternoon. "He seemed to lie very quiet mid gen tleinanly but I had little or no conversation with him prior to the accident. He slept here Wednesday night and next morning in cleaning up his room I noticed a large, loaded revolver ying on his bureau. Friday morning he got up rather early and went out, and I until not see him did again that afternoon when he came into the sitting room aud asked for some hot water, saving he had met with an acci dent, ami exhibiting the wounds just described. I questioned him regarding the nature of the wound but he at first seemed reticent alxnit saying anvthing." "Finally, he admitted that ne had been up in the mountains and in handling his gun it had been accidentally I thought it peculiar at the (Uncharged. ltr tKfif nh"l'd ollO... f""r,ul'fiHu ......... ; .V a.... the hills, but seeing that he lixked pale I got him the hot water and sent my brother to assist him in bathing the wound. He stayed in lied the rest of the day and through the night, and the next day went down town. Monday he telehad he told me that graphed his wife and also his brother. He did not seem to lie much worse, but complained of being weak and sick. Tuesday afternoon he was again down street, but came back early and went to bed. This morning I arose about 7 o'clock, and hearing groans proceeding from bis room, went in and found him lying on the bed, covered only with his overcoat. The coverings were all dumped upon the ttoor and I saw at once that he hud had a very restless night. I asked him some questions, and seeing from his irrelevant replies that he was delirious, immediately sent for Dr. Powers, who advised the marshal. About 10 o'clock a carriage drove up and Mr. Wallace was taken to the hospital." When the roxrter first called at the hospital, at 4 o'clock, the patient was apparently in great pain. He was delirious and unable to talk or recognize any one around him. Dr. Power's belief that the wound was not made by a bullet but by some sharp instrument is a contradiction of Wallace's story to his landlady. It might be or it might attempted" be a pure accident, but if the latter, why should Wallace attempt to conceal the true version of the affair? The whole matter seems to be shrouded in mystery and the real facts may never be known, as Dr. Powers is inclined to the belief that the wound may prove fatal. His wife arrived from Salt Lake at 5 o'clock last evening, atjd his brothers, the Wallace Brothers, of Como, Colorado, have been wired of his condition. Mrs. Wallace, in reply to a reporter's inquiries last night, said that her husband had left home in good spirits, and without any evidence of anything being wrong with him. She had received his message but he said nothing in it of his injury. Supposing his rwquest to come to Ogden to be a freak, she had answered that she would come if there were any good reason. He tiled a message in reply which the telegraph company did not send. She seems to l an excellent woman. liberal r2,ooo. D. H.
