Weddings have always been a part of every little girl's fantasy The world. McDermott granddaughters and their friends have frequent opportunities to observe one special part of the wedding tradition -as it evolves into a the cake- magical creation. Books, pictures and ideas are coordinated for as long as a year before hand. A few days prior the wedding, baking begins. After baking, cakes need a day in a controlled atmosphere before the decorating begins. The one in the photo at the left calls for about 56 "Actually, it's cups of flour. applesauce," Gloria explained. A more solid cake decorates into a prettier creation. She works with several her recipes, including favorite, a chocolate chip and fruit cake. The layers may all be different flavors. The cake is basically decorated in Gloria's kitchen. Gloria McDermott, who made her first wedding cake about eight years ago for Tom and Tatia Bradshaw, has many memories of watching as her mother decorated "Un cakt."1 li fl ntli oirl Frosting consistency, temperature, humidity, and, of course, family traffic through the house are all factors that must be dealt with.
