One very devoted volunteer in our city is our fire chief Les Whitney. He has held that position since 1985, and has been on the force since 1974. He is responsible for 3000 sq. miles and 3500 residents This is handled by two departments, Milford and Minersville.in each community, he appoints one assistant that can act in his absence. There are about 35 fire fighters, of which 10 are females The chief is responsible for all training and this is done on Tues. night in Milford, and Weds, night in Minersville A training officer has been appointed by the chief and both decide what training will be done All volunteers are on call 24 hrs, a day, seven days a week. This dept is funded by tax dollars which are collected by our county clerk and appear on our property tax statement This is applied to equipment, gear, vehicles, insurance and building maintenance, Les has applied for grants such as the E.
