Show fll nit if 25$ $f -- Issue 2 TO PARK OR NOT TO PARK? THAT IS THE QUESTION ByLynette Holm Is it necessary, or is it just Last week plain stupid? Milford High School students were informed that parking in the elementary school parking lot during lunch time was no longer allowed. Milford Elementary's Barnes, principal, Larry thought that by doing this he would provide more safety for the children during their recess. Now the question that high school students are asking is, is it legal? The answer is no. In fact, Milford Elementary is a public school and their parking lot is also public. If the students of our high school were to park there, no one could actually issue a nor could ticket, they officially ask you to move. (Unless there was a posted sign stating that no one but faculty was allowed to park there). They also couldn't "slash our tires and haul off our vehicles." although that was a threat made by their principal to a high school student. 1 I Milford Hiiih School to, then wouldn't they also lose money? If the issue is safety, then the fact is that they are now putting our students at risk. Parking along the street could mean "fender benders" or even a more fatal accident. Really, are Milford High School's students that irresponsible? Some students believe that the solution is simple just start parking in the parking lot at the back of the If that doesn't building. work, many are willing to brown bag! But above all, the students are just asking the faculties of both school's to make some sense and put an end to this ridiculous so called solution! Perhaps, if we don't comply with the rule, they will force us to stop eating at But that their cafeteria. brings up another good point. We were forced to return to school for 12 day on Friday, seventh period including after lunch, because if we didn't, no students would eat at the cafeteria; therefore, causing the district to lose money. If they stop us from eating their because we didn't park where they wanted us BASKETBALL SEASON BEGINS! By Lynette Holm The beginning of another basketball season has begun for both the boys and girls of Milford High School. They began practice November 10, and both teams are looking sharper than ever. We wish them the best of luck this season and encourage each of the members of the student body to show the Tigers their support. The girls play this week on Friday against Valley. They also have a home game against Wayne on Saturday. The boy's season begins next week. The newspaper wants to wish them good luck! We're behind you all the way! November 20,1997 WRESTLING SEASON We asked a few students that ate at the cafeteria what they thought about the new parking rule. This is what they had to say. BEGINS! By Coach Collins "I think it's dumb because they call it a parking lot shouldn't you be able to park there? Bryce Bailey "It's silly!" -- Jeep Spaulding "It's brainless. I think there should be another solution. Russell Holm 20 out of 1 00 teens speed. I 5 out of 100 adults from the ages of 35-4- 4 speed. People who are 20-4- 4 years old are more likely to be involved in a vehicle accident than any other person. People over the age of 74 are or get in a car accident than any other person. less like to speed !!!??!y THANKSGIVING-B- y Lynette Holm Each year the Thanksgiving edition of the newspaper begins with, "In October of 1621, the Pilgrims and Indians sat down to the first Thanksgiving feast." This year it's a little different. Instead, wot rid like to begin with the fact that thanks is given to those who deserve thanks. Too many people in this world want to be praised for "t very tiny effort they put forth towards someone else. I find it satisfying to quietly serve someone, and I also enjoy lieing served by someone who isn't expecting the "pat on the back." I think there- are a lot of these quiet servers at MHS who need to be thanked. And there is no better time to thank someone than during First, thanks should TnarnVsgfvmg. be given to Alice Smith for her donation towards- - our newspaper. - Another season of wrestling has started, and this year we have some great Senior. Brett players. Thomas. should be competing for a State Title at 103 lbs. Tug Thompson, another senior, has improved from last year; and Ben James has a shot at a State Title in his weight division at 135. Steven Florence, a junior, is ready for another year and will be competing for a State Title also in the 130 lb. division. Two other Josh Long and juniors. Shandon Young, are getting ready to compete this year. Shandon is new to the team, and Josh will be a tough competitor at State. Four arc sophomores working hard for the Milford I think Tiger's this year. Derek Barnes should be good if he makes it through practice. Trent Thompson, last year's most improved wrestler, will be very tough Calvin Wright, at 125. another new wrestler, is going to be fun to watch. He is very EXPLOSIVE! Javier Romero, new to the team as well, will be a great addition. Second, the teachers of Milford High School should- - know they are appreciated for the hard work and dedication they give to the students of this school. We should remember the service our cheerleaders do for us as they raise the spirit and support the kids of MHS. We need to show thanks to Mr. Lrickson for working so hard to help out each person at Milford High. Remember to thank your coaches for encouraging you to do your best. Don't forget to thank your boy friend gtrifriertd for always being there (uiiless, of course, there not) and last, we should always feel grateful for the people who make this school just a little bit better to attend. The burnt turkey will lie forgotten after dinner. The pumpkin pie will disappear in a few short seconds, and Grandma's fruit cake will somehow find itself in the garbage, but ho one forgets the on made memories And our only freshmen tough enough to come out for the wrestling team is Dustin Thomas. Sam Schofield, Koda Kyle Maples, Livingston, and Craig White are helping us out with their managerial skills! Our stats this year arc Chans Carter and Monica Florence, and I am assisted by Coach Miller. This year's team should be very exciting. We have a number of home matches and wish to see everyone out supporting these guys that work so hard. We still need a few more guys to make our I'm team even better. looking forward to a great year! Wrestling schedule for this season is listed on the Business Page of the Hilltop Echo. Thanksgiving No one forgets those that have helped them out! Remember to give those people thanks, and then sit down and enjoy the meal! Ttuinksffiving HolUiay Ixtgins Novcmtcr the 26th at t:l7p.m.t -- H7INKSGIVIN G |
