VII NO. 25 Historical Tidbits Roosevelt Hot Springs first remembrance Baxter: of the Hot Springs was in the late 1920s. There was Norman My By water in the pool and many of the young people went there to party and swim. The last time that I was there there were only foundations of the old buildings and a decaying old swimming pool. At one time that area must have had many spouting geysers, for there are acres of a form of Opalite that forms in very hot water. It was famous for its crystal clear opal with formations in it that appeared as silver bubbles. Sometime in the 1960s Dr. Eugene Davie drilled a well near there. At about 500 feet they struck a steam reservoir that spouted steam for a long time before it was capped. Later Phillips Petroleum drilled several deep wells that resulted in the present generating system, now run by Pacific CorpUtah Power and Light. The Springs had a greater history than I had realized until I read this account published in the January 11,1918 issue of the Beaver County News, printed at Milford and by D. A. Webster, Editor: Roosevelt Hot Springs Inviting "P. B. McKeon has fitted up the Roosevelt Hot Springs in a very attractive and comfortable manner. The place is sure to become a popular resort. The medicinal properties of the waters of the springs are said to be wonderful indeed. A few weeks since a railroad man of Salt Lake City came to Milford so crippled from rheumatism that he had to get about on crutches and was suffering much pain. He went to the Springs and took the baths and drank of the water there for a few days and came back apparently entirely recovered and threw his crutches away. This may sound like a patent medicine advertisement, but it is an actual fact testified to by several local people to whom the incident is well known. The natural temperature at the Springs is much warmer than in the valley during the cold winter months. The dining room service and the comfortable beds and lounging room make the Roosevelt Springs a most delightful place to rest and recuperate. It is expected that the coming months will bring many visitors to Milford en route to Roosevelt Hot Springs as Mr. McKeon expects to start quite an advertising campaign to make known the wonderful medicinal properties of these waters.
