Obituaries 7 Michelle Dawn Atkin ' Beaver: Michelle Dawn Atkin, 8, passed away as a result of an automobile accident on May 20, 1997. She was born March 21, 1989 in Beaver, Utah to Wayne Murdock and Christine Bradshaw Atkin. She w as a member of the Belknap Elementary 2nd Grade. She loved to read Jo dance and to bhc enjoyed drawing sing. all kinds. She had lots of pictures of friends and was a very happy and loving daughter. She is survived by her parents Wayne and Christine Atkin of Beaver. Brothers Randy L. Atkin, Reed H. Atkin, Leslie Wayne Atkin & Russell Clay Atkin all of Beaver. Sister Tracy & Randy Purcell of Beaver. Grandparents, Howard & LaVern Bradshaw and LaVar & Mildred Atkin all of Beaver. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 23, 1997 at 1 :00 P.M. in the Beaver LDS 2nd Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Olpin Mortuary on Thursday evening from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and at the church on Friday from 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. Rogers Potato Marketing Company Introduced Milford Valley Spuds to Nation From Milford News (Submitted by Gladys Whittaker) November, 1949: 'The Potato Marketing Company, a partnership formed to buy and sell potatoes, 'moved into Milford' in 1943, --""iT7 I 171 and promptly lost $32,000 in their first year's operation here. They won't divulge the profit figure for recent years, but it is so pleasing that they continue to 'spread out' and enlarge their operation each year." "The company had purchased potatoes in the Milford and Sevier Valleys prior to '43, but that was the year they began supplementing their spud purchases with their own crops. They leased 75 acres of the Old Atkin ranch from the Boston Land Company, planting it in spuds and using certified seed. When Ira Daniels, one of the partners, came to inspect the crops about harvest time an early freeze chilled his California blood as he Russell Mayer at one of the deep irrigation wells added to the train. They worked industriously at harvesting enhance their farming operation about 1 949. The partners owned two potato cellars, with a combined capacity of 56,000 sacks. The Mayer Brothers, Gene, Lloyd and Leo, moved to 2 Milford from California's San Joaquin Valley in 1945. Russell, George and James followed from Manford, North Dakota in 1948. In addition to wheat, barley, oats and flax, the Mayer Brothers planted 1 50 acres in potatoes in 1950. Rogers, 84, passed away May 15, 1997 in the Beaver Valley Hospital. He was bom July 3, 1912 in Riverside, Idaho to Royal & Maggie Hickman Rogers. He married Lelia Mae Manhard on April 6, 1936 in Beaver, Utah and she preceded him in death on March 2 1,1987. Sheridan worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for over 46 years as a brakeman. He had a green thumb when it came to growing flowers and vegetables. He had a great love of the mountains and the rocks, in hours the spending many mountains. He also loved animals and especially horses. He is survived by three Billie Joe Rogers of Leeds, sons, Calvin Roy Rogers of Minersville and Dale Dennis Rogers of Sandy. 8 Grandchildren. Brothers Lee & Lena Rae Rogers of beaver, and Jay & Hazel Rogers of Salt Lake City. Sister Zola & Farrell Sweats of Fruitiand. He was preceded in death by a son Sheridan Ray Rogers and a daughter Lelia Mae Wiseman. Bro. Enis Rogers and sister Mazel Horton & Thelma Gray. Funeral services were held on Monday May 19, 1997 at the Olpin Mortuary with a grave side service shortly thereafter. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and she loved animals and especially liked to ride horses. When she w as younger she helped her father with the work on the farm. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and her family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her & Linda Easton of Richard sons, Indiana and Robert & Brazil, She has 9 Utah. of Orem, Madge 8 Grandchildren and Great grand Sister Faye & John Williams of Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Jodi Easton and two sisters, Clciynth Larson and Letty Pearce. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 17, 1997 in the Beaver LDS 4th Ward Chapel .
