Show Semier (Eoutitg fHonttor PAGE 3 Dear Editor: Letters to the Editor The following proposal was submitted to the School Board for consideration at a scheduled "work meeting" held last Thursday. The Old High School Preservation Committee and others interested in still saving the Old High School Building, believe thai everyone, students, athletes, tax payers and the citizens of Beaver would be better served if another site was obtained and a complete track and field complex built there.. Such a complex could eventually include baseball, tennis and other sports facilities, and there would be plenty of room for a middle or new high school. We feel that the citizens of Beaver and Beaver County need to be aware that the district school only has some $240,000 at its disposal for actually redoing the present field. doubt that this will be enough. On the other hand, if they would do as We and track in suggested our proposal they very well might have enough to obtain additional property, meet the need of the students and open the way to still save the Old High School Building. ASSUMPTIONS 1. The old high school can be sold for approximately $100,000.00. 2. The cost to tear down and remove the old high school from the campus would be approximately $90,000.00. 3. The school district has approximately $240,000.00 budgeted and set aside to build an athletic field. 4. The current campus needs a track and field facility to accommodate the P.E. classes during school hours. 5. Placement of a 6 or 7 lane rubberized track on the existing site is feasible without removing the building, and can be done for approximately $150,000.00. PROPOSAL We feel that the School Board should consider selling the old high school to a private entity. And then expand the current track to 6 or 7 lanes with the funds from the sale, and the dollars saved from not having to tear down the old school. Do this Caption under the Letters to the Editor headline is traditionally: "Utters to the Editor must be signed and have a daytime phone number for verification. Comments do not necessarily express the editorial policy or viewpoint of the Beaver County Monitor. Equal space will be provided for opposing views." Yes, it has been the policy of the paper to print all reasonably appropriate, properly signed letters. The surprising volume of mail has made this logisticalry impossible. We will continue to print letters to the editor with varying viewpoints as space allows. Dear Editor, I would like to respond to Rene Jacobsen's letter to Beaver County Monitor: I believe that people have the right to speak and think the way they choose. " I agree. I believe we are given that right in America.. If so, why the condemnation for those of us who choose to oppose Circle 4's spreading farther and farther into areas where they are not wanted by some? We were content to let Milford have the Pig Farm if that's what the people wanted to save their town or provide a heritage as Ross Marshall stated at the March 5th meeting. At the same meeting, Rob Adams stated, "Yes, pigs stink. I am not going to tell you to expect less this summer than last. " We who oppose Circle 4's encroaching closer and closer never said pigs don't stink; we said we don't want to smell them. Our previous experience with the smell was 8 miles away in the summer. Rob Adams does not have to live with it at home, as I believe bis home is in the trees of the "Grove" in Beaver where he probably will never have to smell his "pigs" stink. We are threatened below us at this very time with the possibility thai we will have to deal with this. We did not move to the pig area and ask that they be moved. Don't bring them to us is all that we ask. It is obvious that many people are upset with that is happening, but we are being equated with "mob rule" as one representing Circle 4 stated at a meeting in Beaver, as well as something similar was stated in a letter to the Beaver County Monitor. The last Zoning and Planning meeting in Beaver was well attended and the Circle 4 permit was opposed by letters to the committee as well as almost all of the people in the audience, yet we were again told by vote of the committee that our wishes would not be acknowledged. April 7th we attended a meeting where the actions of County Commissioners were again much in question and opposed. It was mentioned in the meeting that Circle 4 employees will use "that road" and are residents of Milford. How many are taxpayers? It is my understanding that improvements are made after the taxpayers pay. If the pigs are allowed to move closer and closer, it is my belief that our property will be valuable only to people who want to be pig farmers or want to sell to Circle 4. One former Zoning and Planning Committeeman was working for Circle 4 and was a member of the planning board when he represented the company and signed applications for 95-195-conditional use permits 94-at least one committeeman for works Circle least one at 4; present has sow property to Circle 4, Previously, a concessioner h conditional permit was given to a commissioner's relative. Another commissioner wants to provide a heritage for his children. Quoted from March 6, 1997 Beaver County Monitor: "We can make this work if we move further out. Putting it where the company wants it would just adfire to fire. "At the next meeting he voted for the permit and Circle 4 got what they wanted. Are we the taxpayers to provide a heritage for a certain fewer jobs for people who are serving the people? We have been taxpayers in Beaver County for 20 years. Our voice is as much to be heard as the people who want more and more and are moving closer and closer. This is not "name calling" as some have chosen to call it, anymore than the people who are praising the value of Circle 4 and it's welcome to Milford. From what we've seen at the last two meetings we've attended, the number who are unhappy is not diminishing, but growing. My husband and I personally do not see a revitalization of the Main Street. Not everyone wants or needs the same gifts. That is our right to choose. I believe Americans are given the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Our pursuit of happiness was to move to safe water, clean air and peace of mind. At this time, we feel that is being threatened. All have the right to have our voices heard. "Where are the ethics behind any of this?" quoted from the same letter submitted to the Beaver County Monitor. NOT IS IT A lot of us are asking the same question WRONG, BUT IS IT BEST? (copied) Please County Commissioners, Zoning and Planning Committee, give the rest of us a chance. I am reminded of a line in a song, "I owe my soul to the company store." . Sincerely, sMarie Moore Beaver 3; 4; 0; The reality of today is that Beaver County has three thriving communities. Homes are being built. New families are moving here. There is growth in our schools. Churches are expanding. Life is blooming here. Why? Because of Circle Four Farms. Circle Four Farms has provided good job opportunities for many people in this area. At this time 91 of the employees of Circle Four Farms reside in Beaver County. Circle Four Farms pays out over S250.000.00 in net payroll every month. That is a lot of money for these communities. How do 1 know these things? That is my job at Circle Four. I pay the bills and the employees and I see the good that Circle Four Farms has done for this area. I see the payments that are made to local businesses and the contributions that go to different organizations within the community. While some of us are new residents to this area, we are taxpaying citizens who have a right to voice our opinions regarding the changes to our county. You seem to consider our opinions biased and not credible. Many newcomers to this community donate their talents and skills to Beaver County's growth and benefit. Why? Because this is our home now! We have a vested interest in continued growth and development of Beaver County. We have a right to help make decisions about our community. We care about our environment and are concerned about the quality of life here. We look forward to a bright future for ourselves and our children. Your comments in the March 27th paper indicate that we who support Circle Four are cult like. I find that an insult to my intelligence and the intelligence of many others. That phrase is yet another example of the negative garbage that you continue to expound. It serves no immediately. It is you, Alice Smith, who are biased and fanatical. Your selective letters to the editor are based on your personal opinion. When someone does submit a letter that is not of your thinking, you pick the letter apart, as with Renee Jacobsen's letter. You are trying to manipulate the people of this county with your crazed "editorial notes". The funny thing is I only read them now to see how ridiculous your comments have become . There is no real journalism represented in your paper, it is a pathetic example of printed material. Perhaps you should consider renaming your paper one more time. However, he did abstain from voting. 1 must say I was surprised to see you sitting on the Planning & Zoning Board during the March 5th meeting. While I understand that it is a volunteer position, I would assume that committee members must require an "open mind" and have no blatant conflicts of interest. Unfortunately for Beaver County residents, you fail to meet both requirements. Unlike. Mr. Kesler, you have not abstained from voting. The Beaver County Monitor's continual negative coverage of Circle Four Farms may profit you slightly in sales of papers, however it really doesn't do much for this community. As editor of the local paper, one would assume you feel some responsibility to promote the goodness of this community and help to enhance Beaver Count)' and Milford in any way you possibly can. As frequent viators to his office, sometimes as high as three and four times a month, we have never seen any evidence of these symptoms when we were in his company. We have taken other members of our family, as well as other Park Service employees, to Dr. Spwdding, they also felt very comfortable and safe in his care. We are 100 miles away from Milford Clinic, with no services in between, nor are there any other acceptable service any closer, it would be a great hardship to our family if we were to loose the services of Dr. Spaulding, sol just on a professional level, but a personal level as well. We support Dr. Spanldag in his time of trial and do indeed offer our prayers, and anything else he may need in his time of need. Respectfully yours, s Michael Rondaa and Colleen Roodaa Baker, Nevada |
