HgchelHolm General Milford High School family, Consumer and School .V.771 One hundred and forty seven students representing fourteen high schools and five school districts will compete for awards and honors in the Nineteenth Annual Southwest Utah Sterling Scholar competition on the campus of Southern Utah University, Cedar City, 1 uy Utah,onApri!3,1997. This year we will be honored to have Arthur T. Challis, Southern Utah University's Instructor of Communications serve as Master of Ceremonies for the Awards Program at 7: 00 pm Prior to the Awards program beginning at 5: 00 p.m., a banquet will be held to honor the Southwest Utah Sterling Scholar Finalists and their parents andor guardians. The Master of Ceremonies for the banquet will be Van Bushnell, Assistant Provost for Vocational Technical Education at Southern Utah University. Fred C. Adams, Founder & Executive Producer of the Utah Shakespearean Festival will be the guest speaker at the John Craw Mathematics 'Beaver High School IZ 7.. Milford High School :jf banquet , Weaver High School Students selected as finalists involved in final competition are from the following schools: Beaver, Cedar City, Dixie, Valley, Enterprise, Hurricane, Kanab, Milford, high Panguitch, Escalante, Bryce Valley, Parowan, Snow Canyon, and Pine View. The. fourteen categories of the competition include the following: English, SpeechDrama, n Mathemafjcs,.iSociiaJ Science, ' Science, Foreign Language, Applied Technology, Agriculture Science, Family, CbrtsunJet arid Health Sciences, Business and Marketing, Music, Visual Arts, Dance, and General Scholarship. Each of the 147 finalists will be judged on personal achievements and awards compiled in their portfolios and interviews with the judges. The finalists will be judged and citizenship, up to There co their scholarship, up to leadership, up to will be three judges in each category. These judges are from local communities, Dixie College, and Southern Utah University. A winner and two runners-u- p in each of the fourteen categories will be announced at the evening program and each will be given a Sterling Scholar pin. Finalists from each high school will receive an embossed Sterling Scholar Certificate. Colleges and Universities in Utah arc offering full tuition scholarships to winners, and many are offering part tuition scholarships to runners-u- p.
