The Lions Club of Milford, the Lions Club of Beaver and the Beaver Betterment Club each donated $500. along with the School District's match of $1,500.. This made the purchase of mis valuable screening tool possible. This demonstrates the great service such groups provide to our community. This camera has many capabilities, and can screen for six common eye problems in our children... the most common being "lazy eye". In the past we have done a vision screen for "lazy eye" as the children entered kindergarten. If it was detected, it required about 6 months of treatment with a patch. This is a great social barrier to a child just starting school. With this tool we can detect lazy eye and treat ir much earlier. If we can catch this condition when a child is 3 years old it can be treated in a matter of weeks. This screening is available at the Public Health Department and takes five to ten minutes to complete. There is a S3 .00 charge for the screening. All parents are encouraged to bring their child in once each year beginning at about 3 years of age. A good rule would be during their birth month. We will continue to screen at school annually, and we will use this camera if there is any question about A your child's vision. great advantage to this new equipment is that we will be able to screen handicapped children who have been unscreenable in the past If you need us to come to your home for these children, we can arrange it Please call the Southwest 2 Utah Public Health Department at for times that we can accommodate you with this screening.
