"Neither wind nor rain, floor nor tornado will stay these men." It may well be applied to the men ar(d women of the Hill Air Force Base telephone exchange. The seven-c- ar Freedom Train, carrying documents showing the foundations and growth of American liberty, is, in essence, the spearhead of the American Heritage Foundation's program which seeks to create awareness among U. S. citizens of their priceless heritage. Guests may board the train free of charge, between 10 a. m. to 10 p. m. at the Utah General Depot West 2nd St., Ogden. Since many of the documents the train are irreplaceable, elaborate security measures have been taken to insure their safekeeping. A basic, precautionary feature is the welded construction of the entire train, and the heavy steel sheathing of the three exhibit cars specially constructed for the train tour. A system emwas custom ploying carbon-dioxid- e built and installed in the exhibit cars. This system is entirely automatic and is activated by means of a temperature-pressur- e device. It 1 For, due to emergencies whichoccasionally arise, both personnel and equipment are subject to call beyond the regular tour of duty. Two trucks to cover installation, repair and maintenance are constantly on the alert to correct any deficiency in the 200,000 feet of overhead open wire the 16,000 feet of aerial cable, or the 39,000 feet of underground conduit that stretches from the borders of Hill AFB to the heart of Ogden. Outlining the general functions of the dial system, wire chief Madison compared it to the manually operated system. He stressed, however, that the mechanisms of the former are so contrived that most operations instead of being performed by human operators are completed by means of switches set in operation and controlled by electrical impulses which are sent over the line. "Modern type automatic switching equipment, or what we all know as the dial telephone is so complex as to require the concentrated attention of specialists for their comprehension," stated Mr. Madison." If each person having a telephone wished only to talk to one other person and never to any others, the plant would be very sim- s., bandits."
