New Location . I PextonBIdg.No.Mab Dern Proclaims Flag Day in Utah. In commemoration of the 152nd anniversary of the birth of the American flag. Governor George ti. Dern has issued a proclamation for observation of Friday, June 14. His proclamation Is as follows: "The flag of the United States is honored and respected throughout the world. It is a symbol of strength, standing for liberty and justice, the protection of the weak and the regulation of Uie strong. It represents all the principles of free dom and equality toward which members of the human family have struggled from the earliest times. The 152nd anniversary of the birth of the flag is approaching and should be observed throughout the nation, both by Individuals and organiza tions. Now, therefore, I, George H. Dern, Governor of the State of Utah, do set apart and designate Friday, June 14, 1929, as flag day, and call upon the people of Utah to display the flag from their homes and places of business on that date, and to hold appropriate exercises wherever possi ble. I also urge that teachers, be fore the close of school, Impress upon their pupils the importance of ob serving flag day In proper manner, and that every opportunity be taken to call to the attention of those from foreign shores the principles for which the flag stands." The new Ford is an unusually fast car and a comfortable car too! Peace Officers Will Meet at Salt Lake City on June 10th A central law enforcement confer ence is planned in Salt Lake City for June 10 with officers attending from all sections of the state. Calls will be sent out within a few days by Gov. George H. Dern who will ask for attendance of officers from all taxing units holding police powers for the purpose of working out a unified program for a more rigid enforcement of law. The conference Is to be called on recommendations made to Governor Dern by German E. Ellsworth, fed administrator for the district comprising Utah, Ari zona and Nevada, and by George A. Goats, deputy federal administrator for Utah. According to Mr. Ellsworth the plans contemplate Invitations to sheriffs of the several counties, county attorneys, police, local marshals and to join with federal officers In working out a program for better cooperation between the city, county, state and federal forces In the enforcement of the prohibition act as well as other laws. Either the federal commissioner In charge of prohibition enforcement under the treasury department or a deputy commissioner will probably attend the sessions to lay out plans. Governor Dern and Attorney General George P. Parker will probably head the state forces. eral prohibition THE new Ford has unusual speedno doubt of that. There will be speeches by Governor Dern of Utah, Governor Phillips o Arizona, officials of the highway department, and the industrial congress, under whose auspices the program Is being arranged, and officials and leaders prominent in both states who were interested in the early development of the western country. The Mormon church leaders of Utah and Arizona will have an important part In the dedication and attendant ceremonies, it Is planned, since they were the first settlers in Utah. The Arizona highway department will construct an airplane landing field near the bridge site, especially for this occasion. Is was announoed by M. C. Hankins, secretary of ths highway commission, since it is anticipated numerous parties will make the trip to the northern section by airplane. Good roads lead to the bridge from both the Arizona and Utah sides of the gorge, and where needed, these will be improved before the date set for the- dedlcation, It was stated. Many motor parties will be planned to arrive at the bridge the day before, on June 13, and as a diversion for these as well as for the entertainment of the crowds preceding and after the actual dedication a dance pavilion will be built where those who wish may find amuse ment for idle hours if they tire of exploration trips around the bridge. All visitors are urged to bring sufficient food for the length, of time they contemplate remaining in the vicinity, and provide their own sleeping facallties, whether for tenting or spending the night under the stars of northern Arizona, where chilly nights prevail at this season. While all of the plans are still In the formative stage, It was understood the formal opening of the bridge, and its dedication ceremonies, will be arranged on a scale contemplating that this will be one of the most interesting and important events in recent history of development in the southwestern country, the spanning of the Colorado chasm on the north, linking Arizona with Utah and opening a great artery for vehicular travel to and from the vast regions north of the Colorado river. - Eat Little Grain Bird The Department of Agriculture sajs that certain birds, the bobwhite, for example, eat more or less grain, but the grain feeding is largely In winter and on scattered seeds left In the fields.
