BASEBALL BOARD CANYON ROAD IMPROVEMENTS BEING MADE AT CEMETERY Cemetery Is Inclosed By Heavy Net Wire Fence Roads Graded and Graveled. HOLDS MEETING TO BE IMPROVED At a meeting of the Nephi Base- Plans are under way for the ex penditure of five hundred dollars for improvement on the Salt Creek Canyon road! during the next two months. The improvement will consist of widening the grade for practically the entire distance from the entrance of the Forest Reserve to Bear canyon. Above the railroad bridge instead of turning to the left, it is proposed to keep om the old railroad bed to the end "of the grade and the Red Dugway be cut down ball Ass'n, held Tuesday Feb. 21, MRS. In the selection of these two men the Board feels that they have secured men who are fully able to look after the interest of the Nephi 1 , Baseball club in particular and the Interest of the league as well. Art ex Garbett has had considerable perience along this line, being man ager of the Springville club for two years and attending many of the meetings of the board of control and is well acquainted with what the Nephi club is in need of. R Hawkins has had considerable ex perience in the Nephi baseball ass'n and has dome much work for the club along this line. Arrangements for the dance were completed and they hope to have In support of the public in making this one of the biggest affairs of the season. There are many things to be done for the ball club in the way of purchasing new suits, balls gloves, and other equipment. The total value of labor is aprcximately $1000.00. The water is now in reach of every lot in the new cemetery. All of the old fences have been removed from the interior, and the appearance of the cemetery has been thereby improved over 100 percent. By the end of the week 480 rod1 of road in the interior of the cemetery will have been built up and 1 ' graded. All of the brush has been removed from the road leading to the ceme tery and it has been graded and approximately 200 loads of gravel has been placed thereon. The two little narrow culverts on the main road south of the cemetery have been replaced by galvinized culverts 22 feet long. Wilford Bailey and Andrew Olson have donated to the city two small tracts of land adjoining the road in order to straighten the main road leading tp the cemetery. On the afternoon of February 22 Mayor Harry Beagley and Principal George A Sperry, with a large force of boys from the High School cleaned the cemetery of all brush, weeds and rubbish and did a splendid Job. Bert Jackson has permitted the City to construct two gravel loading devises on his premises odjoining the cemetery and to haul gravel bone dry platform. "FUN NIGHT AT H. S. ALBERT L For the purpose of obtaining funds for the erection of three "Wel come to Nephi" signs, the Nephi Kiwanis club is sponsoring "Fun Night" for tomorrow, "Satur day night) at the Nephi high school gymnasium. The program of events include two basket ball games, one between the Fats and Leans, and one be tween the Nephi Kiwanis club and the Mt. Pleasant Lions club. It also includes a battle royal with six boys; one ten round bout, and two thrde round bouts. Following the athletic entertain ment, the committee has arranged for three orchestras to furnish music for dancing for the remain ing two hours. Another reason is that if the road is kept in good condition it will induce the people to go to the canyon and enjoy our beautiful mountain scenery. The money necessary for this improvement will be furnished on a bases, the forst service has already apportioned $250 while the balance will be raised by other local sources. Warren Allred gave a very fine talk at the regular meeting of the Nephi Kiwanis club Monday noon. The subject being the "Lite and Character of George Washington." Miss Helen Cowan rendered a violin solo, accompanied by Prof. Wallace L. Martin. C. D. Reese, a new member of the club, was introduced to the club by t" O Durham. City Awards Contract Nephi Ward Relief Society For Digging Trench To Hold Bazaar Tuesday The contract for the digging of trench for water mains was awarded to Gean Sperry and Bobe Sperry, by the Nephi City council at their meet ing held last Friday evening. The contract calls for approximately 2700 lineal feet of trench, at a cost of 4 cents per lineal foot. There were a number of other bids submitted, but the bid of the Sperry Brothers was the lowest submitted.
