DENNIS WOOD EDITOR In the case of ye editor, it settled all the way down and hit the right A. B. GIBSON MANAGER spot in all places. To begin with Nephi showed "signs of slothful batting of the ball," the w Subscription Ilates meaning of which went over readers heads like an airplane. The balance Six Months J1.00 of the epistle sunk in, however. He One Year $2.00 deplores the fact that the game was Era TIGHTEN UP The last issue of the Payson Chronicle had the following timely editorial relating to conduct of players and spectators at the ball games of the Central Utah league "In the past week the Central Utah Baseball circuit has seen considerable lack of respect for rulings of umpires by certain players, and in a couple Of instances officers of the law have been called in order to re move irate players and fans. It is deplorable that such tactics should be used by fans and players, and more rigid discipline must be enforced if the game is to be played and enjoyed by the better class of sportsmen. It should never be nec essary to be obliged to call officers to remove players from the field ordered out of a game by an umpire, and such conduct on the part of play ers should not be condoned. In the last game played at Payson between Payson and Eureka one of the visiting players refused to leave the game when ordered to by the game umpire; in the Heber-Eurek- a at Kureka, a near riot was enacted and the umpire was knocked down n in the melee; at the Fork game Wednesday at Timp Park, American Fork's pitching ace had to be escorted from the field by a deputy sheriff. Such actions does not look good to better class men and women. Rivalry is keen it is true, but player and fan alike should always keep in mind that it is the mark of poor sportsmanship to act anything but gentlemen and it is the hope of this paper that the action of the past week will be a valuable les son to all players and officials of the league, and that such occurances will be taboo in the future. Baseball is what players and fans make it and in the Central Utah League the pennant race is still in doubt, so much so that every team in the league has a chance at the coveted rag. Play the game, be fair, and when the breaks appear to be against you. be gentlemen." Yes, Indeed, we have many pictures of Provo's "consistency" In base ball. We remember mighty distinctly once down here when Provo was' leading by seven or eight runs in the last half of the ninth. Nephi staged another "batting exhibition" which lasted until the whole Provo team, including those Provoites who came with them, going up into the breeze so high that when they came down all the Nephites had gone home with the ball game. It is also remembered that It was upon this occasion that the "big town" came down to teach the "sheep herders" how to play ball. Of course we all heard the usual line of alibis. Alibis are chronic up under the shadows of Tlmpanogos. It seemed that this time the Nephi fans made too much noise and some of the "big town" temperament became upset. And that is about as far as Provo ever could get with Nephi, and that's what hurts. This same "consistency" showed up again last year when Provo be came too "good" for the "sticks" and joined up with a "State League." The record was sweet to gaze upon. Now, this year, back in the "sticks" again it would be the "Big Town, Uber and it doesn't work with a whole lot more success than it used to. Take a squint at the results of Provo meeting other teams, namely American Fork and Heber City. Not invincible we should say. The very fact that the score in the particular game in question July 22nd, was 7 to 12 would indicate that ye sporting editor of the Herald was Kills Flies and Mosquitos, Moths and Moth Larvae, Bed Bugs,House Ants, Roaches and Bugs. Queer how, if Provo was so doggone "con sistent" In that game, they had the same amount of errors as Nephi had and its queer that the score didn't run up to about 75 to a goose-earbut it didn't. Far be it from us to "pour on cold water" upon any budding editor's private genius or cleverness, but we feel that the Herald's skipper should either throw his hammer away and bury-th- e hatchet, or let somebody else report ball games, because Its only a little fun we're trying to have when Its all said and done and some knocker can put a damper on the their heads to see themselves on top.
