Mayor Thomas Bailey dis cussed the proposition In detail and stated that the city tax next year would be materially reduced which would more than take care of the increase now proposed. He stated that the city was now paying over $100 per month In rents and other charges which could be eliminated if suitable quarters were provided. At the close of Mayor Bailey's address the mem bers of the club voted to endorse the bond Issue and work for its success. GRADER 1 SCHOOL BOARD The Nephi Fruit and Marketing Association took a progressive step forward this week when they installed a mechanical grader for the sorting of their fruit crop. The machine is motor driven and grades the apples perfectly. The machine is operating in the Cazier warehouse near the local railroad station and it is worth while for any citizen to see it in operation. It will mean a great deal to the association in the shipping, of their fruit as it eliminates a great deal of time and grades the fruit much better than can be done - Vocal duet, Florence Sperry and Vivian Peterson. J COUNTY The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Juab School District was held Tuesday evening. Present: Jas. Garrett Jr., Harry Foote, Lorenzo Mangelson and Raphael Garfield Claims against the district after being duly audited were ordered paid. The Board authorized the schools of the district to close Wednesday evening in order that the teachers could attend the State Teachers convention which convenes in Salt Lake City next Thursday, October 23rd, and continues until Saturday evening. was A new typewrting machine authorized to be purchased for the use of the commercial department of the high school. Repairs needled at the Central school was referred to a committee composed of Mr. Foote, Mr. Lunt and Supt. Smith. The work oi; taking the annual school census was authorized by the Board and Supt. Smith was instructed to have the work done as soon as possible. A committee composed of Mrs. J. W. Paxman, Mrs. J. W. Brough and Mrs. Hyrum Brough, met with the Board in behalf of the Service Star Legion asking for permission to improve part of the high school grounds and the erection of a suitable memorial to soldier boys. After discussing the question the Board took the mat ter under advisement. RELIGION CLASS HIGH SCHOOL NOTES CONVENTION SUNDAY The Religion Class convention of Juab Stake will be held In this city Sunday. The program for the morning session from 10 a. m. until 12 will be given in the Seminary. Sunday afternoon frcm 2 to 4 p. m. a general meeting under the direction of the Stake Board of Education will be held in the Tabernacle. There will be no services in any of the wards of the city In the afternoon, the Tabernacle meeting being the only one held. Representatives of the General Church Board of Eduaction will be present at the meetings to present some of the subjects outlined in the program. GEORGE H. DERN TO OPEN CAMPAIGN HERE George H. Dern, will open the Democratic campaign in this city Saturday evening October 25th at the Venice Theatre. Plans are being made by the local Democrats for a big rally on this occasion, as the nearness to election and the prominence of the visiting speaker will tall for a special effort to make this the big meeting of the campaign.
