The fact is cited that at the present time there are a dozen or more small wells in this area, but on account of the high cost of sinking wells the average farmer does not have the money to attempt it. This week a representative of the Utah-Idah- o Sugar Company was here and the proposition discussed with a number of farmers interested in this section of the valley, the result of which, has been the signing of a petition addressed to the officials of Che Utah-Idah- o Company asking them to make an investigation of the lands in question. The petition which will represent several hundred acres of land is given herewith: "We the undersigned farmers, own ing farms in the artesian well belt in Juab Valley, Northwest of Nephi, do hereby petition your company to investigate this section of Juab Valley, as to its adaptability for' the raising of sugar beets; and do further urge upon your company the advisability of your financing a test well in said section, to determine if artesian water in sufficient quantities for irrigation is available in this part of juao Valley. We respectfully represent, in support of this petition, that approxi- mately 1000 acres of land is embraced in this district, most of which is but has no other source of irrigation; that there are a dozen. or more small artesian wells in the district being from 75 to ltio feet in aepth; that ttie soil of the district is a as we have rich loam, been informed, for the raising of beets: that on account of the high cost of sinking wells, it has not been possible for any individunl farm. owner in this section to make a pro per test for artesian wa'er for irriga. ion; that if a test.well demonstrates the feasibility of securing artesian water for irrigation in this district, all ofthe undersigned are desirous of drivfug such wells and thereafter raising beets on their lands.
