We submit to the voters the following brief synopsis of the work acconx' plished by the outgoing administrati- on: 1st The improving of our electric lighting and power syBtetn. The administration on coming into office dis. covered that the demand tor light and power service from our electric plant was considerable greater than could be supplied under the conditions then existing. The demand for this necessary element, electric current, had outgrown the ability of the City to supply same without making important changes in the power plant. There had been and was at that time some agitation by numbers of our leading citizens, favoring the turning over of our plant to a established kindly or infirm old age as upon the vigorou man. Every day during the summer seasons our water system was drained, so that water users in the greater part of the city were unable to get the water they were barged and required to pay for; the City was constantly subjected to the danger of fire, and our system was rapidly going to pieces through the strain put upon the ser vice pipes in their alternate filling and emptying. Previous councils had expended large sums of money in procuring water sources and devel oping water to provide the badly needed additional supply, but it remained for the preesnt administration to arrange for the taking of such water in to our distributing system. This was done by laying an additional flow pipe from our main tanks up to the canyon the required dis tance at a cost of aboit $7,000.00.
