Resolutions have been passed by the various farm bureau organizations of Utah both State and local, relating to this question. Meetings have been held by the state school authorities, where opinions have been freely expressed as to the best means to be employed in reducing school expenses. The school superintendents of Utah held a convention in Salt Lake City a few days ago at which the main topic discussed was the best method of cutting down expenses without endangering the present efficiency. Now it appears to us that it would be a good Idea for the members of the various school boards throughout the state to get together and discuss Those this question of reduction. are the men who will eventually have to pass on the budget, and also on the salaries of teacher sand all other school employees. There are many questions that could be discussed to advantage by such a convention. The disparity in salaries in almost every district In Utah for the same grades will sooner or later have to be dealt with if the plan for reduction is really going to be made effective. When there is a difference in the salaries paid for certain grades, in districts where the working conditions are practically the same, which very often vary from $10 to $30 per month or more, there is something When U Is considered that wrong all the people are taxed to raise the $25 per student for each district. This paper is strongly of the opinion that a convention of board members should be called and the question of school expense throughout the state be thoroughly discussed. Tractor farming will win. The time is fast coming, when horse drawn plows will be a thing of the past. It took several years for the auto to displace the buggy and horse, but the latter means of travel is now almost a curiosity. With the present low prices of grains and other farm products the progressive farmer will look for methods to cut down the cost of production. In this search for lower costs he will turn to the tractor, a machine that is coming into Its own every year. J. W. Whitmore motored to Provo yesterday to attend to some business matters.
