When the eeneral rounrl-n- n enmes t'ae next sesion of the Utah Leg islature, as come It surely will, as the people or Utah were never more determined to reduce th ernmispH of Government In this State than now, there are two offices that should be abolished right off the bat. as thev are of no more use to the people of tnis state than a fifth wheel would be to a wagon. We are speaking now of the offices of District Attornev. and ehe Juvenile Court, To longer main tain th former office is an Imposition on the tax oavers nf Utah. Tha nfflpo of District Attorney is a complete duplication of work at the present time In this state, and with the exception of one or two instances con stitutes a burden which, the tax-pa- y ers ar compelled to earrV. In the case of the Juvenile Court ag at present administered it is nothing legs than a joke, and has bred contempt for law and order among practically the entire Juvenile nonul- atlon of the state. The patronage of this office which Is distributed accord ing to the political Ideas of the rec ipient, aas degenerated into a resting place for broken down politicians, and in mauy tnstancs these offices axe being held by men who could not be elected to the position in a hundred years, if the peopl had a voice in weir selection. The last legislature, hv rnttlno- down the appropriation for Juvenile Courts to such a figure that it is impossible at the present time to have anywhere near efficient work done, took the first step towards the slow strangulation of this law. The next legislature should complete the Job and thus end what has been nothing less than an idealistic fad nas cost tne of Utah hundreds of thousands of dollars without any tangible results, and ac, companied by failure after years of trial, in which the Juvenile law has been changed and bolstered up from time to time and is yet in an unsatisfactory condition, and failing to function in many parts of Utah. at tax-paye- rs Mrs. Charles Haynes nleasantlv entertained a number of friends at a birthday party Saturday eveniner. given In honor of her husband .Mr. Charles Haynes.
