Of course there will be many people who will at once hold up their hands In horror at the thought that these public lands could be administered by any other agency than that of the National Government. But our opinion is otherwise. Tie State of Utah has men Just as wise, just as efficient and capable of taking care of these lands and carrying out the present forest policy as the men now employed by the U. S. IN There Is muoi food for reflection in the address given this week in Salt Lake by President J. H. Young of the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Company concerning the lack of Reclamation work in the State of Utah the past few years. Mr. Young is in a position to speak on this question as he is a native of Utah, and holds a position that enables :him to keep in touch with conditions throughout the west. President Young spoke very plainly at this reclamation conference on the apparent indifference of this State to reclaiming the dry laud through irrigation projects, w'aile Idaho, Arizona and other western states have forged ahead. "Thousands of Utah citizens are living in these states today" said Mr. Young "who would never have left Utah if the opportunities that, we have for bringing water to the dry lands had been fully utilized." This leads ua to ask a few pertinent questions. Have our representatives in Congress been looking after the Interests of Utah as they should have been in the past and also the present? How is It that so many Government projects in Idaho can be floated and carried t'arough to completion, while Utah has practically only had help for one project the past twenty years namely the Strawberry Irrigation Project? How is it that the plan to bring some of this water into this valley which would have irrigated some of the richest lands in all the west was turned down as being to costly, yet millions upon mill-Iocan be advanced for costly Idaho projects? This leds us to again ask the question. Are our representatives in Congress awake to the vital interests affecting Utah?
