INSTRUCTION BY MOVING PICTURE FILMS IS PLANNED IT PLEASES US TO PLEASE YOU" OCTOBER BEET "NEMATODE" SUGAR at Mrs. Richard Mangum, and sons $8.00 Loran, and Leland, of Salt Lake, visH.00 ited with relatives here Saturday. A communication from H. J. Webb, State Crop Inspector, requests that all persons, farmers, Sugar companies, railroads and others, who have anything at all to do with the handling of sugar beets this fall, take every precaution to prevent the spread of disease and insects which attack sug ar beets. Mr. Webb specifically stat es that the screenings from sugar beet dumps must not be placed upon the public highways, as it is from these dumps that the "Nematode" and other serious sugar beet pests are scattered. The sugar beet "Nematode" is be coming a serious pest to the beet industry in some of the counties of Utah, and as our county has not yet become infected, every precaution should be taken to keep it clean. This Insect is one of the ellworms and in the larvae is micropic, living in the fine root hairs as a thread like worm, sapping the sugar contents of the beet and seriously interfering with its growth and development. In the cyst stage it appears as a small pearl like bead somewhat pear shaped and atached to the roots or beet itself. When fully matured these cysts turn brown and live in the soil for several years, sometimes being found to a depth of three feet below the surface. The only known method of control is by a thorough crop rotation carefully followed for many years. If you have suspicious spots occur-in- g in your beet fields call the field man of the sugar company, or the county agent before digging your beets so that provision may be made for special unloading of beets from the spots if the "Nematode" is found. You owe it yourself and your neigh bors to be careful. No pests of this sort have yet been found here. Let's keep them out. glorious moment of discovery! 15 North Main - One Year SI Months Plenty of silver prunes for sale Whitmore's ranch. Phone 190. .
