TO OUR SPECIAL DEMONSTRATION MO ENGINE III No Difficulty Has Been Experienced With New System, and Greater Mileage Has Ocen Obtained Fuel Cost Is Reduced. OW Those who huve attempted the use of kerosene as fuel in automobile engines are aware of the Impossibility of starting on this fuel, and the necessity of providing gasoline for use until the engine warns up. To provide a convenient and reliable means of doing tills, an additlouul curburetor, and a small auxiliary container for gasoline were fitted to a delivery car, and have given good results. Briefly, the installation and operation of the system are as follows: Another carburetor, similar to the one on the car, was obtained. The Intake manifold was removed, and was faced off ut Its dividing point to take the carburetor flange. At the center of (lie face thus made an inlet hole was drilled to match the carburetor orifice, and ut either side two bolt holes were tapped to correspond with the holes in the carburetor rlunge. At one end of the main fuel tank, a flat gasoline reservoir, with a capacity of one gallon, was placed, as the container for the gusolliie supply. It was connected to the extra carburetor Installed on the side of the Intake manifold. The main tank, fuel pipe, and carburetor control on the steering column remained unchnnged. The control for the additional carburetor was mounted on the dnsh ; and consisted of a direct rod connection to the throttle and a NOTICE TO CRKITORS friction control lever. No difficulties have been experienced with Kv.stem, and better mileage per gallon tins been obtained with kerosene than with gasoline. The only noticeable difference was that the motor does not throttle quite as low as with gasoline. mil when pulling heavily through Band or mud with open throttle, some slight tendency to skip was observable. One- linlf the fuel cost Is saved, and this Item easily offsets the difference In running and the cost of Installing the system. Modern carburetors, designed for the heavier grades of fuel, will work on kerosene more successfully than the other, types. By O. A. Luere in Pop operating t con trul U Mechanics , Magazine. However, it does enable the Com- pany to buy materials at lower prices for future manufacture, and in accordance with our announced policy we now quote those prices, the Company taking the loss on machines already finished and materials on hand.
