In an article printed in the issue of April 1st, relative to a home coming celebration this year, we stated that David Cazier, was' the only living survivor of the first settlers that came to NephI, this information we obtained from the recent history of Utah, which gives the names of the USED GARS FOR SALE Fine Watch Clock Jewelry Repaiiing ar Not Different But Right . first settlers to arrive here, and am- ong which list is the name of David Cazier, and he being the only one living in .that list we naturally supposed that our statement was correct; but it appears that Mr. C. R. Foote, now living In Salt Lake city has that honor, and we gladly give space to the following letter which explains the matter, and we are pleased to make the correction. Edior The Times-New- s, Dear sir: I note by your issue of April 1st, g that you suggest a for Nephi next September to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the settlement of Nephi, and I feel sure that the people of your city and elsewhere will support the move. In your article you speak of the first settlers of Juab Valley, and state that you believe that David Cazier Is the only one living of the first settlers, and while there is no question but what the Cazier family were one of the early settlers of Nephi, yet they were not the first.' My father Timothy B. Foote, with his family was the first white man to pitch his tent on what was then known as Salt Creek, and in that family was his wife, Nancy Jau Foote, and the following children, Charles Foote, Guy Foote, Victoria Foote and Cyrus R. Foote, the latter being the only one living of that family. While the Caller family and others came to Nepht or Salt Creek as It was then known, shortly after the arrival of my father's family yet I claim the distinction of being the only survivor of the first family to settlfl there on Sppt. 12th. 1851. Trusting that you will give space to the above In your valuable paper, I bg to remain. As an individual, you don't care to base your claim to attention merely on the fact that you look different. You want to look right. That's what the truly well dressed man demands 6t his clothes, not the labored look of being dif ferent but the easy air of being right.
