FARMERS SHOULD FIGHT THE WEEVIL I NOW pos-Ibl- e, grow. To bring the waters of Hutchtown and Flute reservoir on to the Levan ridge la the latent wuter project to be launched for thin vulley. Pluns are now under way. engineered by Wm. Ilailey of this city, whereby something like 0 2.000 acre feet of water can be brought on to the Levan ridge. The water will be purchased from the slate and will be brought In the state canal to Clarion, and then a new canal will be built and the water syphoned over the Sevier Hiver canyon into Juab valley. A meeting was held at Levan a week ago and was attended by about 200 farmers, who are enthusiastic over the new plan that Is now being arranged for bringing this state water from the Hatchtown and Flute reservoirs on to the ridge. The state Is anxious to sell this water and will do everything possible to help Juab valley obtain it as they filly realize that this is the logical I'ioce for it to come. Under this new pan the old survey from the Gunnison reservoir, which Included a one mile tunnel and about 20 miles of difficult country to build through, will be eliminated, and a new route as stated above will be uku. iuis juu is to use me present slate canal as far as Clarion, which by cementing will be able to cairy this extra water, thus cutting out all the expense of a new canal. From Clarion a new canal will be built to bring the water that will be purchased from the state onto the land in this valley. It is estimated that 30,000 acres of ridge can easily be watered with the amount of water that can be obtained, because the water will not have to be used until needed. The following letter ha been addressed to the State Land Hoard by the canal company: Honorable State Hoard, Capitol. Gentlemen: The Juab County Canal company Is desirous of purchasing from you all available waters of the Fiute Reser voir, for the purpose of converting the same upon the lands of Juab county. The object that the company has in view Is to conduct this water through the state canal. Of course It Is well understood that In order to do this it will be necessry to line the canal from one end to the cither. F.y so doing It will enlarge Jta capacity, without further enlarge ment of the canal, sufficient to take care of the extra amount of water. We would like a statement from you. at your earliest convenience, of how much water you have available. k.il it would cost, how long a time you wbi1d be able to give us upon yearly payrffcents to pay for It, or should we pay what would v , cash down. In connection with this undertak ing, we would like to suggest that it appears to us that the entire undertaking should be made as one, that to say, the lining of the canal would be of decided benefit to the present water users and they should bear a portion of the expanse. This we feel could be convenelentiy bandied by the state In as much as they still bold control of the project. We would further ask that before disposing of any more of this water1 that you give us sn opportunity to purchase. If Is the intention of our company to negotiate with the Government foii the money to put this project Ino effect.
