Beginning at the north side Sports and continuing on over to the south side of the Ridge, every field is apparently disregarding the dry weather. Such a yield as seems to be assured, was looked upon by nearly everybody as being an utter impossibility a month ago. Unless rain came soon the crops must surely die for want of moisture; but still they stand and although each night they look tired and worn, the morning sees them fresh again. In th mind of the writer a very conservative estimate of the average yield of the entire Ridge will be better than twenty bushels. It will be an epoch in the history of dry farming. Since October first of last year the Ridge has received 7.34 inches of rainfall as against 11 inches for last year for a like period. Since January 1st of this year only 3.24 inches of rain have fallen on the Ridge farms as against 8.2 for a similar period in 1909. No where in the dry fanning sections of Utah can be shown a drier record and nowhere, as has been said, can better crops be shown that at present adorn the faithful Ridge. This years success on the Ridge is due to two main causes; first that land is ideal for dry farming and, second, it is being farmed right in most cases. The farmers of this locality have lis tened to the advise of careful in vestigators and have read care folly the publications of results obtained by them. They early learned that, in order to get a good crop, they must not "play with Mother Nature she doesn't like a slovenous tiller of the soil; he must farm right or she will "cutoff his allowance." The fallow land of most of the farms on the Ridge is well taken care of and that is essentials to sue On Fourth. DEAD. 1, TIMES By FOR WOMEN.
