Nothing sensational is doing, either socially or politically, and being independent in politics and thus barred from a discussion of the vital issues which are at present harrowing the nation it will bo seen tliat it is very difficult for us to select a local theme which could possibly be twisted into an interesting and benefi cial item in fact it is utterly impossible. But notwithstanding the impossibility we aim to do the next best thing and select the above theme, which should bo beneticial if not interesting. Our delinquent list is not yet decreasing. On the contrary it must be $ro or (o above what it was when we last used this handy topic. This don't alarm us in the least because we never need money, aLd are always glad to have more money coming, except when we want to buy something, and we have found that money coming wont buy anything. But rea'ly we feel that each delinquent is working a hardship upon himself, and this is the cause of our solicitude in the matter. We have learned, by expetience, that it is harder to pay t5 or $0 than it is to pay $1 or ?I.5o. We also know by experience that it is easier to pay for what U not eaten or used than to pay for something that is eaten or used. Therefore it is in your interest that we direct your attention to the fact that it would give you great pleasure to set aside the first few dollars from the first load of wheat, potatoes, apples, sheep, wool, or whatever it may be, as a special fund to pay the printer all arrears and one, two, three or four years in advance ns best suits your good graces and convenience. We will also carefully caution you against setting this fund aside too long as experience teaches us that money has a strong aversion to being set aside as a special fund in fact we have known people for whom money would not set aside for any purpose. So after all it is best to come straight to the print simp with the first one. two, three, four or live dollars you get. Money is the root of all evil. We would n't keep it, not for anything. Neither do we wish you to keep it for us it will contaminate you. We have mapped out sixteen things tint wo are going to buy with iho money that is coming in on subscription this fall. That Socialist Article. We have not yet taken time to read that socialist article which run in these columns the past two issues, but judging from the many compli mentary (?) expressions it has elicited wo conclude that it was excellent. We are negotiating with Mr. Kandall for his services and if his price is not too low we may bo enabled to secure his services as a permanent contributor. We had not thought that socialism was so interesting a theme or we would have catered somewhat to the public taste long ere this. o-- con-wer- e p No. 34.
