Show Peter Pan-Orama Of Sports r . o n -r --o--o--)--m LYMIDYL - LEAMIIIGTOII IIEVS LAURA BRADFIELD K)ao-ao-K)--(cK -)- SS5ft , u Tips From The Pros: The man over the plate is Chicago Cub catching star, Randy Hundley, showing fellow baseball fan, Brad Moss, 9, the proper way to protect the plate from an incoming in-coming base runner. Randy positions himself directly in front of the plate, facing third base in a low crouching stance, feet about shoulder width apart. This prepares him for an impact with the incoming runner. His left foot is firmly placed about three to four inches inside the third base line, leaving a portion of the plate exposed. Randy stresses the importance of holding the ball with both hands. The ungloved hand presses the ball tightly into the pocket of the mitt. This makes the mitt a protective pro-tective shield for the ball. Both hands are held about knee high and in close to the body. As the runner makes his slide, both hands are placed on the runner to tag him out. Randy is the first in a series of professional athletes to participate in a program of sports instruction sponsored by Peter Pan Peanut Butter. While waiting for his turn at the plate, Brad grabs some quick energy with a peanut butter sandwich.
