C(t Tlews CP I wt hr V & , I AT I o c 7 rr- I YEAR'S American Legion Auxiliary News Attending the 48th annual department de-partment convention of the American Amer-ican Legion Auxiliary in Salt Lake over the weekend were LaVell Johnson, Cherie Morris, Rose Ma-gowan Ma-gowan and Inez Riding. The local unit received many awards as is shown in the accompanying picture. pic-ture. The trophy on the left is for the best National Security program pro-gram of any unit in the state. This is a traveling trophy and has to be won three times before it is permantely placed with one unit. The wall plaque next to the National Na-tional Security trophy was won for having the best Legislative program pro-gram in the state. The center tro phy was awarded to the local unit i ' for being named the unit with the!' best Community Service programs and the trophy on the right is for carrying out the best Americanism program of all units. The citation on the left is for meritorius service ser-vice in Community Service. Immediately Im-mediately above the wall plaque is a 50th Anniversary Commem-erative Commem-erative Medal received for submitting sub-mitting the best narrative Historical Histor-ical report of unit activities and on the far right is the Department of the Treasury Award to the unit for participating in the Savings Bond and Stamp program. The Community Service Trophy has to "be won three consecutive years and the Americanism trophy twoj consecutive years before being! permanently placed. MISS UTAH IS NIECE OF HINCKLEY RESIDENT The new Miss Utah for Miss A-merica, A-merica, Susan Nielson, 20, is a niece of Mrs. Wesley Morris of Hinckley. Susan's father, John Mar lowe Nielson grew up in Hinckley. He is now a professor of music at the U. of U. Susan will represent Utah at the Miss America pageant soon. She is a sophomore at the university and majors in modern dance. For being named Miss Utah she was presented a $1,000 scholarship, schol-arship, a $1,000 wardrobe and use of an automobile during her reign. SGT. Officiating Of-ficiating was Bishop Ward Killpack The new Mrs. Chidester is the daughter of Mr. Frank Van De Vanter and the late Geraldine H. Van De Vanter. Sgt. Chidester is the son of Mr. Joe Chidester of Myton, Utah and Mrs. Donald Bru-baker Bru-baker of Santa Paula, Calif. Escorted by her father to the alter, the bride was lovely in her full-length gown of white velvet accented by fur trimmed sleeves. A rhinestone crown released her tl- END MISS JOYCE Engagement Told Mr. and Mrs. Ward Johnson of Delta announce the engagement of their daughter, Joyce, to Mr. Steve Teeples. Mr. Teeples is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Teeples of Holden. The engaged pair are planning a July 26, 1969 wedding at Delta First Ward. They will make their home in Holden. V .-.a ?: Xv. MkWMM Ramon and Loabelle Black Man- gelson are the parents of a new baby boy born June 18 in a Cottonwood Cot-tonwood Hospital. The new baby has an older sister and brother. He weighed 5 lbs. 11 oz. at birth and has been named Corry Holt. He is another grandchild for Mr. and Mrs. Golden Black of Delta and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Mangelson of Nephi. The bride was radiant in a gown of lace with matching veil. Her gown featured a hoop skirt, fitted bodice, long sleeves. Pearls and sequins se-quins trimmed the gown. C. have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Mury Lynn Hyde, to Nathan Conrad Day, son of Mrs. Alvin D. Day of Austin, Texas, and the late Mr. Day. Miss Hyde was graduated from Utah State University where she was a member of Spurs, the Dance Committee, LDS Student Association Associa-tion Council, and the University Orchestra. Recently she has been teaching In Salt Lake City. She will accompany her hu-band on his return to Guam and expects to continue her teaching career there. Her father is Chairman of Federal Fed-eral Communications Commission. LYNN HYDE Fine Arts Club Harriet and Deo Eliason were hostesses Monday eveningj June 23, 1969 to the Fine Arts Club. Dinner Din-ner was enjoyed at the City Cafe after which the group went to the home of Harriet Eliason to hear an interesting and informative book review, "Two Years Before the Mast", given by Louise Lyman. Couple Honored Mr. and Mrs. Roger Giles exchanged ex-changed wedding vows in a double dou-ble ring ceremony on June 6 1969 in the Deseret Chapel. The ceremony cere-mony was performed by Bishop iLeonard Palmer. Formerly Miss Sharee Palmar, the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Palmer of Deseret. Deser-et. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Giles of Delta. A reception was held in the Deseret Des-eret Ward Cultural Hall, following the ceremony, to honor the new-lyweds. new-lyweds. The bride wore a floor-length gown of white lace with a chapel train, also of lace. A veil of bridal illusion was held by a crown of lace embroidered with sequins and pearls. She carried a bouquet of yellow roses and white daisies. Attending At-tending the bride was Maid of Hon or, Sandra Searle; Matron of honor, hon-or, Mrs. James (Betty) Kelly; and Bridesmaids, Drexel Bishop and Dorothy Giles. Each was dressed in a floor-length gown of mint green textured satin and held a Orvetta Nickle, Louise Lyman and Harriet and Cleo Eliason.
